Modified HX-35

Decided to try something a little different and modify my stock turbo. I'm well aware of several different places that sell "stock appearing" turbos. I'm on a tight budget , and have good friends at a local machine shop.

Truck is a 97, with injectors , some pump tuning and governor springs. Decided on going with a 67/67 stock appearing hx35. I ordered parts from turbo lab of America. Went with a 10 blade turbine instead of a 12 to help with drive pressure issues. Finished it up today , and seems to spool really well , and quite a bit more power over the stock hx35. Here's some pics of it.

What's the exducer of the compressor wheel and inducer of the turbine? My HE351 is a 62/64 and I thought that was pushing it!

make sure you share the carnage pictures!

I put together a 67/67/16cm gated around 55-60 psi. 540cc 215 with 5x.014 Over fueling it pretty bad. Has had the piss ran out of it and still holding strong. Easily makes more power than an old 6 blade 66/73/14 I had on before it. With all the configurations you can make out of Holsets for 500-600 I don't ever see a reason to buy s300s. Video to show abuse.

I think Zach built something similar and was actually very happy with it...

Is it necessary to enlarge the radius to follow the contour oft eh turbine and compressor wheel or is the machining process just a matter of enlarging the bore to fit the inducer on the compressor and exducer on the turbine? I have always wanted to play around with some of this....

The contours must be matched. They must be matched accurately as well or they will be terribly inefficient.

I liked it. I used a 12 blade turbine though as I trusted the source. The 10 blade turbines come from some questionable sources at times.

So when you buy just the wheels, do they give you the profile in a .stp file or something so you can easily machine the housings?

That is pretty awesome sir. Hats off to you for even trying it, and even better it works great. Wish there was more people in the diesel community like this.... blah blah forces

No question the 10 blade I used was Chinese although it stated it was 713c and has been holding up well.

The wheel material isn't typically as much of an issue as shaft material and tolerances. For the most part the import aftermarket wheels are fine but I'm not in the business to be fine for the most part.

I am sure you will get along OK, though. Usually the problematic ones show their face pretty quick.

A modded he351 put a qcsb common rail into the high 10's and it's still running fine after being beat on for quite some time. That was fuel only also
