63.5mm HE351ve

So I know this isn't the norm at all, but I am thinking of replacing the 60mm WH1C I made with an HE351ve over the top of my S475. I know the WH1C is choking the exhaust side, I have the 351 sitting here and from what I read they open up to 20cm; so I thought I might try it. The wheel is a little chewed up so I was already planning to replace it, but I was thinking why not grab a 63.5mmx88mm wheel from a Powerstroke for dirt cheap? I know their shafts are a little bigger, I have access to a good lathe here at work; so I was just going to plan on making a shrink fit aluminum bushing...
 
Just double checked, you are right; for some reason I thought that the turbine wheel was already bigger in the HE351. You don't think the bigger housing will help at all? I would rather add an external wastegate and keep the quicker spool up than go to such a bigger turbine and it be a dog on the low end.
 
No. The restriction is the turbine wheel. The ve and cw start having issues at similar power levels.
 
I don't think I really want to go all the way to 67mm on the turbine. What do you think about a 64mmx76mm 10 blade from an HX40?

That's the wheel I stuffed into the HE351cw I ran on the Junker. It did over 800 HP to the wheels with that setup fuel-only and ran numerous 10 second passes at the track. With the "generous" mountain correction factors, it was a "900 HP" setup!!! Spoolup was great with the bigger turbine, very little difference honestly, just lowered the inter-stage boost pressure a little and picked up power.
 
Thank you Will for the real world feedback with some numbers! I knew you got to the 10s with an HE351cw, just couldn’t recall what mods you had done to it.
 
The largest turbine wheel that will fit in the HE351VE is 67x70 due to the VGT vanes. You can look up TurboLab of America for parts.

Have to get creative with my 64x76mm turbine.
 
So because of the area i have to work with and the bulkiness of the HE351 cartridge, i only have options to index it at 30* and be able to run coolant or 8* and run no coolant... I’m guessing the 30* angle on the oil return is just too much.

I'm curious on how this turns out. I have two 351ve's sitting on the shelf that need new life. Following along for knowledge.

I'm running into this problem because I had to make my stand off piece weld to the exhaust manifold at an upward angle to get some clearance between the exhaust housing and the HVAC unit. The cartridge is only clockable so often because of the veins, and on top of that the water bosses on the cartridge hit the turbo flange if not clocked correctly.

So the exducer tips on this 63.5mm wheel are taller (wider?) than the original wheel and I am trying to figure out the best way to shape this housing.

Originally I was going to do this so that the tips could really "throw" the air into the housing. But then I was wondering if that would cause a low pressure area and velocity issues?

Got it! I was thinking a little more about both options and even without the erosion issue, i decided i was going to go with the first option unless someone talked me out of it. I was thinking about how that wheel grabs the air and pulls it in across the radius and throws it out at a 90 degree angle from the intake. Having that ledge there would definitely interupt it.

I guess i should usually go with my first instinct? Lol
