6.7 QSB piston style

QSB piston bowl styles. Industrial (shallow/open) and ISB (steep/deep) design... Who's running what, and why ?
Without having dimensions, just looking at pics of each, it appears the industrial style bowl more closely resembles the 04.5 - 07 bowl style. Is a 143° spray angle still efficient for use in this bowl ? Or is it better to stick with the OE style bowl ?
 
The factory cone angle for the Iveco or what is being referred to as the Industrial bowl is 128°.
 
Ok. That's what it was looking like to me just looking at side by side pictures. So, industrial bowl is 04.5-07 nozzle style.
 
+4° is pretty close.

Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, that 4* could make a significant power difference on a maximum effort engine build. I assume you're not chasing maximum HP so it probably is insignificant for your project.
 
Nope. Under 1k... Got my 5.9 torn down right now, and am considering doing a 6.4 build. If I can find a decent 6.7 block at a decent price, in a reasonable amount of time, then it's gonna happen. Was searching QSB Rebuild kits for a 6.7, and learned they are available with 2 piston bowl styles. The QSB's for the 5.9 are only available in the 03-04 style (re-entrant) bowl... So it's new information to me that I need schooled on. Lol.
 
The QSB 6.7 piston is available in two bowl styles.

These are the only bowl designs I was aware of so this is news to me. I know when ordering rebuild kits for a QSB you can choose either the ISB style or QSB(industrial style).

And when I ordered 6.7 QSB Pistons from Enterprise engine performance I was only given one option on bowl design for the QSB specifically. Other option was just standard ISB piston bowl design. And could choose between the brands of Cummins OE, Mahle, or interstate Mcbee.
 
The way I understood it, is that they are offering QSB (double heat treated) pistons, in either bowl configuration. Or did I miss understand their item description ?
 
I'm waiting to hear tomorrow if I can get my hands on a clean 6.7 block... Might be my turn to do the 6.4 build I've been wanting to do. Been thinking about it for years, and it was most likely your thread Cflanery88 that is finally motivating me to get it done��... Well, that, and the fact that my 5.9 is all tore down and ready for the machine shop, lol.

Its really not any more difficult than building a 5.9l. I am no cummins building Guru and this was my first custom Cummins build but If you have any questions I'd be more than happy to help. If I can do it in my garage anybody can lmao.
 
I'll be going a little bit cheaper, lol. Got a set of P&P'd 12v England rods I'm gonna use, and mill the .080 off the block... Should be just fine for my DD truck under 1k.

That was the way I was going to do it at first as I also have a set of England rods. If you know the block will run Std. I'd get the pistons and assemble it and measure the piston depth in the bore from the deck surface to see exactly how much you need to take off. That way you can have the machine shop take off whatever desired amount to give you the piston protrusion you want. Also measure the pistons and bores to get your piston to wall clearance first if you decide to run a custom clearance but if it's just going to be a street truck you probably won't need a custom clearance. Or tell the machine shop what you want and let them do it all lol.
 
I wouldn't mind a PTW a little on the loose side. Maybe .005-7 just to know a piston won't get grabbed. And run a total seal 2nd ring...
But I'm gonna have Parks Engine in Seguin do the machine work, and they have enough experience that I will take their recommendation.
 
I'm running smallish compounds, on a very heavy truck... And I already have all the 5.9 parts. To do an actual 6.7 at this point would be quite a bit more $$$$. And if I had that much extra money, honestly I'd be doing a billet long rod 6.4
