FIRST GEN. JAKE

im looking to swap a nv in to my first gen and i found a chevy nv for a decent price and wondering if i can make it work. thanks

I believe the gearing is different in them, and the chevy uses an internal slave? I have a buddy that has an adaptor plate for the 1st gen to use the 4500 with the factory style slave cylinder.

Yes he does, he was told it was for a 2nd gen, then when he got it. Well it wasn't. I will get with him, if you are interested PM me and I will get you some info.

well is it a firstgen getrag adapter or a adapter to make the nv fit to my engine? im looking for sumthing like this
Replacing Dodge Getrag 5 Speed with the NV4500 Dodge HD 29 Spline NV4500 | Advance Adapters
if not il have swap engine to tranny adapter plates and starter off second gen to make it work

I researched this for a while when doing my conversion. The input shafts are definately different. Also the 96+up GM bolt pattern are the same as the Dodge, get one from 95 and eariler and it will not bolt up to the dodge bell housing. Tail housing are different as well for the different transfercase options.

Since yours is a first gen and has a drivers side drop, the 2nd gen tail housing wont do you much good unless you run a advanced adapters to your current 205 transfercase , or run a divorced case (thats what I did) you could run the GM transferscase as well.

But to sum it up, make sure what year the transmission came out of.....if its before 95 dont buy it because it wont bolt up. Google the transition year to be sure, cant remember 100% if it was 95 or 96 that they changed the cases to be the same as the dodge.

well my transfer case output is on the passenger side of truck. if im not mistaken isnt the 205 the sec gen t case. i know my t case will bolt to the nv ive read it several different places .

Your transfercase should be a NP205, the 2nd gen does not use a 205 case. I know the NP205 can be mated to the dodge NV4500, but I do think it requires an advanced adapters kit (dont quote me but think the adapter is quite expensive). Now maybe the 205 mates directly to the 4wd tail housing on the NV4500, cant say honestly.

Personally if the 205 doesnt mate to the GM case, I would opt for the cummins one because you will have to end tearing the GM one apart just to replace the input shaft, which you will most likely 300-500 in doing.

I am currently running a chevy nv4500 and the input shafts are a direct bolt in from a dodge nv4500. Mine is from a 98 so it bolted directly to my dodge bell housing. I used a dodge nv4500 slave cylinder and so far no trouble. The only downfall is the rear housing is different from the dodges so you will have to use a chevy transfer case.

thanks for the info guys. and i know that the 1st gen tcase will bolt to the nv4500 with no adapter ive read it several places. ive found some decent deal on nv's i just need to sell my getrag now.

I know a guy who has a dodge nv4500 and tcase out of 96 nut has no input shaft. truck had 85,000 miles he's asking 1500 for both
