Ahale's 94 Build thread

Is a 5 pinion straight cut steel OD planet normal for a 47rh?

Forward is a 4 pinion aluminum and direct is a 5 pinion aluminum. Correct me if my verbiage is incorrect, I believe the direct is the most forward pack correct?

You can see how clean the splines are sheared on the planet that let go.

You have to change your sig. No cap, has a stack, must be fast or broken....

parts are finally ordered, new DPC triple disk, and all the parts to rebuild the trans, including front and rear 48re 6pinion steel planets, a 48re front pump, all the clutches and steels. all the servos/levers ect... I believe I will try and clean my valve body myself, if I see anything abnormal I'll send it out to get looked over.

we found out that my OD planetary gear is a 5 pinion steel with straight cut gears, apparently quite rare. it seems to be in good shape so i'll be reusing it. I have always heard a whine in OD with this trans and I am starting to believe it is the cause

Straight cut gears are weaker then the helical cut ones. source up the 5 pinion od 15* planet, annulus gear for the 15* and the 15* overdrive sungear.

Maybe less contact area but there is no thrust to worry about. Theoretically, wouldn't straight cut transmit more power?

that was my line of thinking as well, I cant see how a straight cut would be weaker than a 15 degree of the same size

You are a glutton for punishment. Cummins were built to tow. Put a 62mm single on it and reinstall the cap. lol

Can't. Have plans with my mother and grandmother. Plus I know what my truck runs. I need to get more go fast parts. Maybe I'll buy my water meth back for the day lol
