Springfield XDs Recall

They're recalling some .45's and 9's to resolve some firing system flaws that can cause an accidental discharge or double fire, my .45 fell into this group. I checked the serial number range on the website, entered my number along with some contact and shipping info, and received an email with a FedEx shipping label ready to print. All shipping and repairs are covered, but it annoys me to be without my preferred EDC.

Hopefully not long. That little pistol goes everywhere with me.

I hear the turnaround time is going to be slow. After talking to a major dealer I will not be sending mine in. What is not being publicized to the general public is the case in which a XDs malfunctioned was probably due to operator error. Springfield spent 3-4 months attempting to replicate the malfunction that led to an accidental discharge. What was determined was either bad ammo or an obstruction on the bolt face that led to the accidental discharge. But in order to save face and completely ensure customer safety, a recall was issued.

I'm gonna call Springfield tommorrow and see if they can tell me What kinda turn around time there thinking for the repair. I've put over a thousand rounds threw mine without a hiccup and cleaned it numerous times. I think this was some kinda fluke occurrence.

Mine to. I already got the label but am going to call as well to see about the turnaround. I will say this my buddies did slam fire but we thought it was a fluke. We could never replicate it nor did he report it to Springfield.

Wait for it....wait for it....

....Obama told Springfield to come up with a bogus recall to start the process of disarming the public....

From reading the other forums it appears Springfield isn't going start recall work for another 2 weeks. Then there going to fix them in the order in which they were received. As of Tuesday sa received 7000 xds and are completely overwhelmed. I guess there are more than 250,000 guns affected by this recall so I won't be sending mine in anytime soon

I had printed a shipment label to send mine out in the future. When i noticed that the only option for return shipment was to ship to a home adress and it had to be signed for I decided not to sent it in right away. I recieved an email fron them today about return shipping. Looks like their is a way around it, but i am still going to wait awhile. Here is the response:

Your XD-S pistol must be shipped back to your home address. Changing the return to a different home residence is not possible due to Federal Law. There is one exception, if you own your own business or have two residencies we can have the pistols shipped to that location. In order to change the address you must fax in the request stating that you are the business owner or separate residence owner and would like your pistol returned to this address. Please be sure to list your RMA# and serial # of your XD-S on the fax. Please fax all requests to 309-944-8490.

You may also ask your dealer to ship and receive your pistol.

Thank you,
Team Springfield
