It's probably the trucks rebelling at your intent to add a common rail instead of another VP truck!

Or is it reinforcing the fact that VP trucks are unreliable?

VP trucks are 20 years old at least, and electronic fuel systems were babies then. I think it comes with the territory.

The pump won't run unless you bump the starter. Then it should run for a few seconds. We've built a harness here that we plug in directly to the pump harness and connect to the batteries to prime them.

Is it getting fuel to the injection pump at all? If so, to the injectors? Try giving it a snort of ether WHILE CRANKING to see if it fires?

Dang it, Gary. I think maybe you need to change your name. Most fellows I know named Gary have a lot of truck trouble.

You know, it's kind of like moving the Deer Crossings.

Just trying to cheer you up a bit...

i jumped the pump..it runs..fuel to the vp banjo..15 psi...when ya bump the key..nothing..even with the pump jumped out and running it wont fire..the 122 is a hard code i guess? whatever that means..but it wont let the vp work either...its all part of that 5v bullshiz i delt with on the map sensor last yr...im gonna try another one of them tonite if i have one also..apps didnt help or rest the code...

the kids truck made it to work barely..needs a cam pos sinsor so maybe tonite too..

im sick as a dog so its hard to even go to work much less this grief

You are referring to the lift pump here?

In that case, lift pump wired to run constantly, you have fuel at the fitting feeding the injection pump, cranking on the engine, no fire. Correct order of operations?

When cranking, does fuel squirt out of injection pump line at the connector tube? Have you swapped the ASD relay with the horn relay to verify relay function?

Your issue intrigues me because I have a neighbor who parked his 99 VP truck due to no start issue. It was at a couple shops and they didn't solve the issue. Truck has 500k on the original engine, all stock power, NV4500, 4wd, original owner. It's rough but I know it's in decent mechanical condition. One day he will be tired of me asking to buy it and finally sell it.

Aren't the two trucks the same yr? Can you just swap parts between them as a quick check before buying a bunch of stuff?

Does the wait to start light come on right when you put the key to the run position?
