Official Cali Sledpull thread!

Directions to A.V. Fair Pull

For those coming to the pull, you will need to enter around the back of the fairgrounds. From the 14 frwy, exit at H and head west, make a right on 30th st. West and another right on Ave. G-8, go all the way down until the road ends and you will see the entrance on your right. There will be signs too. It will be hot, so bring water and a hat. Once the sun goes down for pull time at 8pm it will be nice, but hot until then.
See everyone on Sat.

Craig

i actually came down tuesday night with the truck and trailer and came home wed afternoon... i left it in the world headquarters of evil nitrous- Compton...

i'll be heading back tomorrow AM to hopefully pick it up with a super duper nitrous tune with more jets than I have fingers and toes..

Mr Cole willing, I'll be there Saturday.

Coming all the way from Sac for Craigs pull? Right on!!!!!!!

Craig, I didn't see anything in the NADM rules about prohibiting butter injection. I just finished installing a 12 stage injection setup. I am running the first 3 stages margarine, next six are land o' lakes and the last 3 are cant believe it's not butter.

I should be throwing down some good power, i dont want any crap at tech, rules are rules.

awesome job Craig and gang.

There was a butt load of trucks and quite a few tractors and everything ran quite smoothly.

Thanks again for putting on a great event Craig.. I'm glad i was able to get the truck together even if it was my first hook of the year!

Thanks out to Craig of BigPowerDiesel, and Brian of MLM Motorsports and their team for another excellent event.

Track was very good, and it was well organized. Everyone had a great time.

I'm still working on the videos, and will post all of them shortly.

Here's a report by Pat (don't blame me! :D):

Craig Johnson and his crew from Big Power Diesel put on another great event. And Brian Massetti and his crew from MLM Motorsports did a great job with their Terminator sled.

It was arguably the smoothest SoCal pulling event ever.

I was bummed that Tom Colesanti had a clutch issue and could not pull. He was serving in Afghanistan just over a week ago, and they burned the midnight oil to get the truck ready, but it was not to be. :(

It was like old times. Craig, Timmmmmmyy, Tom, Scott, Massetti, Betty, Nick, Doug, MikeL, heck, it was almost a reunion instead of a pull. Even Steve Cole was there.

The track was clay and gripped more like asphalt than dirt. They kept it well maintained, and ran 2 tracks (one sled) just in case it got tore up.

WorkStock was the largest class. Probably 50% of all entries. I forget the name of the driver, (sorry :() but a Dmax Dually pulled first and went full-pull. One of the rules for this event is that either the sled operator or the puller could request a second pass on the first pull. Massetti tightened up the sled and the Dually re-pulled. He repulled and and went ~204', and none of the first 21 trucks could match it. Then up comes the Blonde LBZ Mafia: Kat driving Wendy and Chantel driving the Neensmobile. Kat nails it right off the line running a skip-shift program, clicks into 3rd, and ZOOM! She is gone. 234'? Then Chantal in her first pull ever, follows it up with a 211'? pull. Dmaxes go 1-2-3 followed by Betty's 6.7 Dodge. Then for dessert, Johnny hooks up his Killer Kodiak for an exhibition pass, and nearly drags it out of the fair.

There were only 3 trucks in 2.6, all Dodge, IIRC. Don't remember the results.

SuperStreet had Nick D'amico pull to an early lead, with his exhaust manifolds and risers glowing red, then yellow. It took a very long time for him to spool up, and the announcer started joking about it. Doug Linsey pulled just shy of D'amico's pull, then near the end John Esteves set the mark that nobody could match, even though he was having troubles keeping in the powerband. Matt pulled very well as aslo, and Dmaxes were 1-2-3-4 in a class normally dominated by Dodges.

Scott Voorhees in Big Bad Dodge did the Grand Finale, and it certainly was. Beautiful truck, and it runs HARD. If they didn't flag him at 340' he would have driven the truck home.

There were also modified tractors running, one with an Allison V12 that briefly caught fire, and another tractor with a jet engine.

Thanks out to all the competitors and crew, everyone was professional and certainly helped the event run smooth.

And I'd like to offer special thanks to Mike D with his 6.4 Ford. Regardless of interwebbythingy smack-talkin', he was professional and pulled well. There has not been much of a Ford presence at our SoCal pulls, and we need Fords there for the fans. Thanks to all the Ford Crew for showing up and throwing it down.

Hats off again to Craig and those involved in putting this event together, it gets better and better every year. We found out last year that is great venue as it’s a very big and clean fair facility with huge amounts of space for pits and track area, and loads of seating for spectators. The event was well organized and ran smoothly again this year everybody new were they had to be and when. I like everything about this event and if I had to pick three things I saw this year that made an already good event last year even better this year it would be:

Two Tracks: That right we only had one sled but had a second track, this was a great idea, and we basically had a fresh track to run on at the midway point in the event great idea in my book.

No sand storms: Great idea on using the MLM scrapper with the water sprayer, look at video’s from last year and then look at the ones from this year this year and you will know what I mean. Us guy’s who don’t run a air filter really appreciate that 

Rental Hitches: I thought it was a joke at first as I have never seen it before. Craig actually had hitches for rent, Again another great idea for all the first timers in the street classes who don’t actually have a built hitch or first time hooking Awesome Idea.

I had some issues with my tow rig when I showed and basically it wouldn’t tow jack up a hill over 1500 rpm’s under boost code. I couldn’t have made it home if it wasn’t for folks like Craig, and Betty who determined what the code was, cleared it, and offered to let me use her shop. Thank you very much

Again this event is and has been a great sucess :rockwoot:

Scott:

Not sure if it was a Duramax LLY that you were towing with, but underboost codes (P0299) with aftermarket aircleaners are common. Reprogramming with EFILive will make them go away, so will cycling the ignition 3 times.

SS, Great hook by the way, you were hauling butt!!!!!

Thanks... I should have those video's in a couple of days. My camera battery died so Dave is going to mail me the disk.
