So, we were swinging me new 3406b into my truck tonight and found a giant crack in the pan. I have the pan off my old motor but it had a spacer plate on it, although the pans look identical. Is there a good enough reason to run the plate to buy 2 pan gasket sets and deal with that bs?

I used the girdle on my C18 but I wanted big HP. If your not doing that I would use the rubber C15 gasket and ditch the plate. Screw those leaking paper gaskets

Ok. From what I can tell, the B's never came with them so somebody must've added it. I'll see if I can come come up with an e gasket.

The C15’s use the big rubber reusable gasket and only uses 1/2 the number of bolts. But I’ve seen 2 Acert blocks crack from an unused pan flange bolt hole.

I got my girdle from a 350hp PEEC. If any engine didn’t need extra block support it is a peec. Lol

We've torn down 3 - 3046B's in the last year that all had them.

I agree, but we've been lucky so far. Healthy slathering of Permatex aviation gasket sealant, and the paper gaskets. We're also stationary engines, so that probably helps.

Well my problem is laying under the truck trying to get the girdle or pan into place by myself and bumping something and moving it trying to get bolts in.

Both of these are brakesaver motors so I would think they'd need different hard lines for plate/no plate. I didn't measure the plumbing because I was a little annoyed about the busted pan and I just wanted to leave.

Zip ties here. Tie it all, lift and start bolts, cut the ties and finish assembly.

I can't remember, but I'm not sure I've used a CAT one piece paper, only the 3400 segmented.
Of the engine leaks we repair, it's almost always the gaps between the aviation sealer that is leaking.

On the bright side for some odd reason the brakesaver pan is way cheaper than the others.

That's good, everything else seems to be retarded more expensive. That's how I ended up with this complete engine, I needed an oil cooler for mine and it only cost 500$ more to buy a complete motor with a newer oil cooler than to get the cooler from cat.

Yeah, at least for now. The B Jake's are so terrible and I run heavy in the mountains. I hear lots of horror stories but my personal brake saver experience has been pretty good.

Agreed. The JW Evo's are outstanding; I run the 8900s in my first gens, and a couple pairs of the heated lens 8910s will be in my hands before the weekend.

They are at 5000k (daylight), with a slight yellowish tinge for a few yards in front of the bumper - no blinding white, no blue tinge, so no more glare in Canuck snowstorms than good halogens. The beam patterns are fantastic, great seeing on low & high beams.
