cab vs. engine removal

Ok guys, I'm putting head gaskets and studs in this weekend. I am either going to pull the engine or the cab. I am NOT going to do them in the truck. I had 6.0's out and in before and it's not the funnest thing to do! I was wondering who has taken the cab off and what all is involved? I'm thinking the frame makes a pretty sturdy engine stand. Thanks, Eric

I used to work at ford on the 6.0. I always pulled the engine and blocked it up on the ground.I did one in the truck and it seemed easier to me in the truck although torqueing them was a little of tricky. I never had the pleasure of pulling the cab (we were not set up for it).

i would think pulling the cab would be waay easier, and wouldn't have to unhook it all.

pull the cab, you gotta take more chit apart to pull the motor than to pull the cab. put the truck on jackstands so when you torque the heads the truck dont shift around and go up slow with the cab to make sure you got everything.

Wow, pulled my truck in the shop today @ 5:00, by seven I had the rack under the cab ready to lift it off, but chickened out being the only one there. I'll be lifting the cab tomarrow morning with more eyes on it. Do you guys strap the cab to the lift or what?

Thanks for convincing me to pull the cab. I would still be at work pulling my hair (and engine) out if not for you guys. i guess I was just scared of the unknown, ESPECIALLY on my own truck!!!!!! Thanks a million, Eric

lengends14x I've seen them strap the side steps of the cabs to the lifts..and sometimes they don't even strap them...just make sure there is equal weight on all sides..

Ok, no problem. My biggest fear in doing this is dropping my own cab off the rack. I will never hear the end of it if I do!
