2017 Ford F-250 Power Running Board Issues

Looking to see if anyone has any input on what this could be, other than bad running boards. Looked on interwebs...and came up short.

My drivers side power running board has been acting up last few weeks, and is getting worse. Sometimes it will come down correctly, and go back up. Sometimes when i open door it will come down half way and stop. Sometimes it comes half way down and comes back up. Sometimes it wont come out at all, and sometimes it stays down when i close door.

Now, the odd thing is that i noticed today. After i had folded my electric mirrors in, when i got back in it and hit the button for them to go back out, the drivers side went out a quarter of the way and stopped. I hit the in and out button a hand full of times and it finally went all the way open. Not sure if this is related or not, havent noticed it before. Although i have noticed the drivers side becoming slower than passenger side.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Brian

I bet it’s the module that controls the activation of boards and mirrors.

I have amp steps on my Chevy. The module went out, causing the passenger side step to drop at any given time. The module was very hot to the touch.

Father in laws king ranch has a corrosion issue on the shaft from the motor to the drop assembly, liberal lubrications and multiple open an close cycles fixed his.

Sprayed the pizz out of all moving parts with wd-40 yesterday. Both sides seem to be consistantly workibg better for now. I will likely hit them once more and keep an eye on them.

It hurts falling out of truck when your not paying attention, and step isnt there.

I'd try cleaning them up the best you can and finding a good dry lube for them. Anything that's going to attract dirt is just going to worsen your issues imo

I thought about that as well. I used the wd more or less because ive been to busy to pull in shop and crawl under it. I wanted to see if it would even help before calling ford. It did it seems, so now im going to clean up and try a dry lube. I can only imagine what kind of chit i would attract with wd on there. Especially consideribg truck is on job sites every day

Were you able to fix your power running board? I'm planning to get power running boards at 4WheelOnline to replace my current nerf bars. I just need more insights on how to maintain them.
