So when is the next track day for the Budget Beater?

ET and MPH predictions? My favorite part about adding mods is guessing the power increase based solely on seat-o-the-pants dynometer and then backing up the claim with increased trap speed at the track.

I dont get back home from work until the 28th. I'm hoping the track is still open on the first of next month which is the usual Friday night drags. The only changes to the truck from the last time at the track will be the 6 in stack and the pressure adjustment to the trans. I'm hoping to break into the 13's and break the 100 mph mark as well. I'm still running the stock skinny tires and stock rebuild trans so I won't beable to launch very hard but I still think 13's are very possible

After reading alot of big blue24's testing and comparisons i have been thinking about doing my own. Since the Dirty Dodge is still brokedown with a tits up trany i was throwing around the idea of pulling off the E.D. "Better Bullet" (66/74/14) and throwing it on the Budget Beater. Stock rebuilt trany is really my only concern but i really want to try this combo out. Since i already have the HE351 on the 12 valve the Better Bullet will bolt right up with no problems.

I'd definitely be interested in seeing the horsepower difference from a turbo swap with identical fueling that compares HE351 to an S366. I think they claim the 366 flows just over 80 lbs per minute so it's actually pretty close to the GT4294's 88 lbs per minute in airflow capacity.

Go for it!! I was asking around on the better bullets to see who runs them on a 12 valve. They all seem to run them on CR's

Looks like Firebird raceway in Boise will be having a test and tune and street legal race night on the 2nd. I'm going to do the turbo swap and head down there to get some track times. Hopefully I can spool this big thing with the stock injectors and hopefully the trany holds up. I'll get some better info on how and where the HE351 spools and get a good comparision to the "Better Bullet"

Nice project truck. Those are the most fun. Kind of what my ford is going to be. Something to pound on, and not have to rely on getting me to work the next day.

Well i got the 66/74/14 "Better Bullet" on last week and was very impressed at how well it spooled. the He351 would build about 5psi at 1500rpms and the "Better Bullet" would build that 5psi around 1800. This turbo is very easy and fun to daily drive even with no plate and 191's. when i first put it in i could hit 55psi very easy and being that i dont have headstuds yet i had to adjust the wastegate down far enough to only push 45psi. With a longer wastegate bolt i was able to acheive the 45psi at WOT.

I made it to Boise friday night on using just over a 1/4 tank of fuel. Boise is 300 miles from where i live and has alot of windy roads and grades to pull. hand calculating my fuel mileage the "Budget Beater" got a little over 25mpg on the trip down. I got to Firebird Raceway the next day, got all teched in and got ready for test and tune. My first pass did a very very easy launch. i launched with about 5psi and eased into the throttle for just sec then mashed her to the floor. Truck took off like a rocket and mangaed to cut a 14.1 @ 96mph. With the He351 and a hard launch i could only get a best of 14.5 @ 94mph pushing a good 1800* down the track. With the "Better Bullet" it will only hit 1500*. When i went to make my second pass and started my small burnout i noticed it took alot longer to spool the turbo and was almost hard to spin the tires. Well needless to say i couldnt spool the turbo at the line for the rest of the day and was only able to manage a 14.5 at best after my first run. Im thinking either the converter tightened up a ton or my timing slipped pretty bad. Even though the turbo spools like crap now it is still very easy and fun to daily drive and builds 5psi around 1950rpms now. After all my passes i can now feel that the trans is shifting alot slower now at WOT and isnt hitting at hard either. but for a stock trans that is expected and im very surprised it has lasted this long. I will get some pics up later of the new stack i built and installed as well as the "Better Bullet" sitting in place!

I'm also building a budjet Racer and I have managed to get down to 13.98 so far. and that was with the stock turbo I have since installed a HX40 so I have to get to the track to see how it does. When I started getting the power I trashed the tranny so get ready! you are on barrowed time right now! that is when I broke the budjet! !

We should have a budget racer national race with a $50.00 purse. It will cost $0.50 to buy in and only 100 will be allowed to enter.

Only rule is your truck has to cost less than $5000.

We'll run it as a double elimination tournament, the last truck standing takes home the $50 pot.....

I like the sounds of that! We should have the cost be less than $5000 total invested. price of vehicle and parts included in the price. Wait im at $5600 if you count my E.D. Turbo i pulled off my CR. But it was purchased for the CR and not the 12v so it was free in a way. Too many rules for a $50 purse.... i give up, lets go back to $5000 vehicle price.

A budget beater race? Awesome idea! My old 12v would be some serious competition. When I had 3k even invested she ran neck and neck with a brand new SS 2 Camero. Shes changed over the summer, and is a little, scratch that, ALOT faster....

Small update for the Budget Beater: I recently ordered an Airdog 2, 5x.018 Contagious Diesel Injectors, ARP Headstuds, Titanium Retainers and Keepers, and a timing kit to bump it up whenever i need to!
