5" FTE resonator or Aero Turbine muffler?
Just bought a 38' camper and the family is not digging the 5" straight pipe on my 2012 C&C dually. What would kill the constant window rattling drone in the backseat? Was thinking of fte 5" resonator or 5" Aero turbine muffler.
I have a friend that has a 4" aero muffler on his 06 5.9 and he loves it. It sounds good but he never tows with his truck. My truck is always connected to a trailer of some wort and is annoying under load.

I ran the 5" AERO and then switched to a 5" FTE and the FTE was much better at killing the drone on my truck.

Fte on my first gen eliminated the drone. With a stack. About 2 feet from my head. The engine was actually louder than the exhaust even at freeway speeds. Could still hear the exhaust but much quieter

That info helps. Second question....Should the resonator be located in the same area where a muffler would be? Or closer to the down pipe?

Also wondering if v-band clamps wear out? I don't know who made my exhaust it was either diamond eye or flo pro. The v-band on the turbo seems to be leaking. About 6 months ago the v-band was loose and was letting the down pipe rattle in the clamp. I tightened the band and all was fine. Now months later I noticed upon hard exceleration you can hear what sounds like a exhaust leak.

I used a Flo-pro twister resonator, it seems to be an fte copy, I installed it at the bottom of the downpipe and it killed my drone nicely.
As far as the v-band, wrapping it with a couple layers of aluminum foil had done the trick for me in the past.

I think for best results it should be right at the downpipe

On mine I did the FTE resonator, eliminated the drone on both the 5.9 engine and now the 6.7 engine. I put it about halfway down, where it was easy to get to and install. As for clamps, they can stretch, rust, etc. As anything there is a useful life to it, if you hear a leak again and it is the clamp I would start by seeing if you have something a little out of wack as far as alignment goes with the exhaust.

Just put a 5" FTE on my straight piped 12v Monday. Put it next to the transfer case in an easy spot, closer to the motor the better. Definitely quiter now.

I used a 52" Donaldson muffler to keep my old one quiet. Before the the drone would kill you.

This is good to know as I was looking to get one for my 06 with an aftermarket single turbo.

Try the FTE resonator by itself first. Attach it to the downpipe. You want it as close to the motor as possible. I think you'll be happy with it without dumping cash on a muffler as well. They make a short and a long. Get the long one. I ran one on my '02 with a stack by itself. Now have one on my '09. Great product.

With the v-band clamps are they all the same when you use 5" exhaust or does each manufacturer use their own odd sized clamps? Didn't know if they are generic? Being that I can't remember who made my exhaust I didn't know if I would have a hard time finding a clamp that fit. Definetly ordering a fte resonator tonight and a clamp if I can find the right one.

Trying to get rid of annoying sounds in the truck. Another bother is the heat shield under the coolant tank rattles. Over the summer I had the AC serviced and the company that did the work took that heat shield loose and bent it. Now it rattles like crazy under load. The heat shield was held on by those one time use black plastic push pin things.

Just harassing. When you go to pull that off in the future holler so I can watch you cuss it. Those are a close #2 or #3 of all time PITA's under the #1 Scotchlock.

I put a 4" resonator on at 320k after being straight piped. All I do is tow a 40' gooseneck around south and west Texas. ( oilfield 8yrs )
The resonator took away that loud drown on the highway and the loud " waa" going up hills loaded or taking off heavy at the top of each gear.
I've ran the resonator about 140k and had a few tiny issues, the band clamps work loose, so weld it, oh and I put mine ( short one ) in the first delete pipe area.
I did not like it any closer to the turbo.
Good luck
Can't recommend any mufflers. I just wanted to ride the drone on the highway, and dos so.
Good info on this site
I do all my own work and it's been hard finding good info when your unable to figure it out in your own, or just want second opinion.
Comp d has been the most useful

Please, for the love of God, don't weld them. Proper band clamp installation will keep them from coming loose.
