If you put 10K down and don't pay tax title or doc fees then, yea, you could get close to financing 45k on a new one....but only close.

its really the new markets fault....the new trucks have went so outrageous it raises the used value.

I probably shouldnt comment because I'll probably go on a rant. Part of the reason the new market is so high I think has to do with the leasing and payment programs. Some one who can't pay cash for a new vehicle, go into the dealer and can lease one or put it on payments. This is fine but, they see the lease or payment schedule and its "only just a little bit more for a loaded vehicle". So now they can get a vehicle in which they can't afford. Also they have now idea what the total cost of the vehicle is because all they care about is the monthly payment. So if people are willing to pay the price why not push it up some more. Sorry rant over

This is only kinda right...Leasing is the best way to have a car if we are talking about a daily that you aren't gonna modify, but, you have to be smart when you do it. I leased my wife a brand new Escape for $150 a month less then her used 09 she bought before I was in the car business. We went with the middle of the road model and she went with the mileage that fit her habits.
She will never have negative equity (she was 4500 upside down in the 09)
She will be under bumper to bumper the whole time
and in 3 years she will get a brand new 2022 for about the same payment no cash out of pocket.
Hell the Toyota Tacoma on a lease is a STEAL with a 72% residual value....but I like to own and monkey around with my chit.

Keeping up with the Jones' is what has ruined the auto world.
A platinum F-350 is about $93k plus tax/title/doc fee new....for a damn truck?
A nice head unit and seat covers in a '95 12valve is good enough for me.

And if you need/want all the bells and whistles then find a solid dealer that sells used and buy, they hold there value except the big ass hit they take as soon as its titled and not "new" anymore. My trucks already took that hit.
