Took off the flex pipe portion, cut off the pipe at the elbow and welded a cap on the elbow and bolted it back on. This may not make sense without seeing the piece in person. I do not have any pictures of it handy but I found one online.
THe end with three holes is the end that goes against the turbo piping. Cut it at that end where it goes from thick elbow to pipe. Tig weld on a stainless cap, the factory part is stainless, FYI. Once the cap is welded on just bolt it back on.
Be careful when taking the existing bolts out, they are M8 or something stupid small and want to break easily, I broke two heads off when I did mine, no fun, lube is your friend, early and often.

My egr delete kit takes that pipe completely out. And puts a plate there. So I’m good to go just waiting on the computer now

The delete kit must have changed since I got mine then, it used to put a plate at the end of the pipe where it connected to the EGR.

Sounds good buddy. How’s your truck doing now. We had one minor hiccup. But nothing major.
I’m waiting on my computer to return from calibrated addiction

Once I lost that extra weight I have had no issues. Got 139500 on it now and still trucking. Ordered a new trans pan and replaceable filter for it today from PDP, on sale 20% off, I am due for a trans fluid change again at 150k and will change the pan and filter then at the same time.
Did front and rear diff fluid changes last weekend, man was that easy, there is a drain plug in both of them. Transfer case fluid change was a PITA though, some engineer definitely was not thinking about service of the fluid when they designed and specified the bolts for that thing. Luckily I had normal bolts to change out the torx bolts so it will not be a PITA again.

Torx, triple square and “E” bolts were put in place so your everyday “back yard mechanic” wouldn’t mess with them. I understand the thought process, most people that don’t own the correct socket shouldn’t be messing with it. Not a dig on you whatsoever just a fact. They are even a pain my my azz and I deal with them on a daily basis.

Really cleaned up under the hood. I still need to remove the def tank and a few little things like that. But it’s ready to roll.
Prolly next oil change I will pull the rest of that insulation crap off the driver side valve cover. Let that heat out. And actually see an engine down there.

how much def does the tank hold? could be that extra gallon of fuel reservoir to get you to the next station in a pinch.

You never want to mix DEF and diesel, it will ruin everything in the injection system quickly. The tank holds about 5 gallons, I would rather lose the weight of the tank and the fluid than have the extra capacity. Now if someone made an aftermarket tank that used the space of both in one tank that would be great, I would be all over that.

Lots of guys have done it. You dont use any of the original lines, just the pump and tank-both of which are removed and cleaned prior....

5 gallons would get you pretty far in that truck I bet, comfortably 100 miles.

How are you guys like the trucks? My girlfriend is interested in one, but is iffy on the price tag of them. Most are still $25-35k in our area. How’s mileage and reliability?
She can’t decide what she wants, between a gas sipper car, suv, or truck. She really likes the trucks and SUV cause they sit up higher, but she also has a 60 mile/day commute.

I would get one, good commuter, good mileage, and you are in a truck. I think the oil cooler and other issues were solved with the newer models.
Just to compare there is a 17 with 19000kms for 43000 CAD or a 2012 mega cab cummins for 44000 CAD with 125000 kms lol

I thought there was a you tuber who had 200+k on his.
Dad loved his and would have bought another. He bought ut new and put 70-80k on it. Only issue was thd filters plugging which was an easy fix. Its still running around locally with no issues.
