Help with fuel setup for new engine

Hey guys. I've called a few local shops, but I got a lot more questions than answers.

My engine is getting rebuilt, and it's time to get some pump work done. The goal is 400 reliable HP for towing. I would like low smoke if possible. What would you guys suggest for pump mods and injectors? Do I need DV's? Spring kit? fuel plate? The pump is a stock 97 215hp. Engine has a 6 speed manual behind it.

I did do a google search and searched here, but 150,000 threads came up and most were

Thanks guys.

If a lot of posts pulled up that were all beating the same dead horse; wouldn't that conclude that those are the mods you should look in to? Then you could narrow your searches even more by looking up those specific mods?

I didn't just post this thread and stop doing homework. I've been reading for 4 hours now. I do not need advice on how to use the net, thanks.

I ask advice here because it has the most cummins knowledgeable members of any forum out there.

^^^That is a lot of fuel. I would call whoever your buying your injectors from. I would say 5x.012 and stock D.V. until you want more.

I would go with 5x014 injectors and stock delivery valves. This will allow a small duration injection event. I would also go no plate but use afc live to tune it. You should be able to dial in a nice 400 hp tune.

Thanks guys. I did a lot of reading today. 5x012 with 055 dv's, or Badbowties suggestion sounds like it will put me in the right neighbor hood. I'll have to figure out if there is any benefits to one or the other. Prices are going to be close anyways.

Stock 215 would easily cover your needs. I would want a gsk in it personally.

I just did my own grind on the plate, set of 4k gov springs, 5x12 injectors and It put down 475hp and 1050ft/lbs torque with my little Aurora 3000 turbo. 215 pump also.

Cool! So It sounds like 5x12's and a 3k spring with a he351 "should" get my close to 400?

Clocked that on a Dyno? I was surprised to see that I am still under 400hp according to the Comp D 1/4 mile calculator. And I have a ground plate, 4k springs, Mac rack plug, 5x12 injectors, 024 delivery valves, and racked barrels...

I'm new to this Ppump stuff. So i'm guessing it depends on your train combo. I have a CCLB with 37's and 373's, so if I get 325hp to the wheels, i'll be lucky.

That's what I thought. Why I was so surprised by khaoskustoms number... But I guess he does have a 215 pump and I'm running a 160.

You have other issues working against you. Like the 37s and 3.54s.....and only having 2wd at the moment.

What do you think the plate turned out to be? #10? #11?

So I have a 4k, 7mm DV's, 180 pump, 5x.012 and a super B with a 63mm inducer. I certainly need more air, but hey, turbo was cheap lol. It's a projected 550hp build, but until I get my fuel (more so lack of) issue fixed, I can't dyno it. drops to 0PIS at WOT.

I would think that 5x.012 injectors would be enough for 400 hp. Hell, if PDD sells 5x.012's in their 550hp fueling package and they test literally EVERYTHING, wouldn't that tell you something? 5x.014's would make you smoke more than you want and certainly haze quite a bit.
