can't tell for sure on size, but that looks like a 5/8 bulkhead to -8JIC fitting and a -8JIC street elbow

x2 on the fittings.

FWIW, by the time you drop the tank and clean it/replace a few filters depending on how much dirt is in your tank, you would be money ahead to buy a sump that doesn't require you to drop the tank and has some kind of pre-screen.

Fair enough. I would go a different route than the parts listed there. I would use a standard 5/8 or 3/4 bulkhead fitting with teflon washers and have it finish as a NPT thread. Then run a 5/8 NPT M/-8 JIC M 90* fitting off of that and a -8 JIC F/-8 push on fuel line. You will save some money not going to an expensive bulk head fitting, but spend a little money on the fuel line itself. But then you are not fighting gear clamps and crappy line. The good fuel line is easy to work with and you just put a little windex in the end and grunt a bit and you have a leak free clean connection.

depends on the run of the fuel line, you should be all in for under 100 bucks if you call around and use your Fastenal account. mind you, doing this "right" would run it right up to your lift pump. I am not super familiar with your gen dodge, but it should have a gear style lift pump or at least a diaphragm one.

I can't for the life of me see how you won't have the 1/8 tank or less issue with drop in fuel pressure on corners and hard stops. At least the off the shelf sumps have a little room for reserve fuel. That little bulkhead fitting will go dry the instant fuel goes forward. I hope that doesn't plague you.

I use goodyear instagrip. You can find it cheap at some hose suppliers in precut sections they didn't sell or that are left over from a roll. I'm always in Nashville rubber and gasket so they cut me a break.

Would it be better to just buy a draw straw from Vulcan? I just feel a sump style pickup would be easier to maintain FP since the lp doesn't have to suck it up the straw

You'll suck up less crap with the drawstraw. I picked up 2 psi with my sump, but the lift pumps were designed to suck fuel up through a line so as long as it's not a performance build, you should be fine. The fuel heater screen or whatever should go if you run the sump IMO.

That's why I bought mine from B&B, a bit more bulky for low sitting trucks but it holds more fuel than the rest. I've ran mine down to only a couple gallons in the tank without problems.
