Which oil pump to run?

Like the title says I'm trying to dicide which oil pump to buy for my 12 valve. I've tried searching and haven't had much luck on the topic. I'm sure getting a cummins pump would be just fine but from what I can tell they are made in China and they are way more money than the Melling pumps which I believe are made in the USA. Any advice would be appreciated.

OEM is china. They're like $105ish. I've run many of them and never had a problem, several at 5k+ rpm.

Mine is a Melling and runs well keeping up with a Peterson external relief valve over 5k RPM

I upgraded to the 24v pump when I rebuild. It flows more/better. It is a OEM Cummins pump

That was going to be my next question. Are all new pumps "upgraded" 24v style pumps or are there still standard 12v pumps?

They're all upgraded pumps.

Ok, thanks. Is it a good practice to pack the pump with an assembly lube to assist with priming?

Cummins calls for the same oil pump from '94-'02, 3937404.

That part number changes to 4939587 and is the upgraded (standardized) pump. 88-02 Dodges.

Sounds like you're buying two pumps and measuring back to back on the same engine with similar conditions then!

Any input on if using assembly lube to help prime the pump is a good idea or just unnecessary step?

I always pack the pump with assembly grease before installation. Helps prime the lube system.

Can anyone give me an example of an assembly lube that can be used in the pump to prime it? Most of the lubes that have the textures that I assume would work are listed as transmission assembly lubes and im not sure if that's something that can be used?

I use John Deere Extreme Duty Synthetic grease. Part number is TY25744.

Lubriplate #105. It's just a white lithium assembly lube.

Hell just dump some Lucas oil stabilizer in it.
