Still haven't pick up the parts pickup. Maybe this week since this weather is starting to come around. In the mean time I tore the block down and found out it is a brazil block, possibly my problem. I have a couple of questions. My head has an international stamp but the block is Brazilian. Is this common, or would a Brazilian cast block have a Brazilian cast head? Also wondering a couple of rod bearings and the front cam bearing were starting to show some bronze. Is this typical or was it starting to wear badly? Just asking out of curiosity, first time I have taken one apart.

Feel like a bit of a heel and a bit embarrassed but I'll up date so some other newbie can learn from my mistake. In the end I took my block up to the machine shop and they came back and said the only thing they found wrong with the block is the deck surface was a bit dirty. I must of not got it clean enough when I did the head gasket the first time.:doh:. I used a scotch brite pad and shined it but they told me that wasn't enough. I should have used some sand paper and what not. This shop has been around for ever and does a good job. So I guess its going back together going to balance the bottom end and do a regular rebuild.

Best way to clean one (IMO) is razor blades until it’s clean/smooth, then some sand paper on a block to double check and put a little etching on it.
It really makes me nervous to see guys using roloc wheels etc on a deck. Great way to really screw stuff up.
