2002 truck with a 98 engine

Hello everyone !! Long time ford guy here but bought my son a dodge. Truck is
A 2002 2500 24 valve 6 speed. Supposed to be a ho engine but it's not and this is where the fun begins. Engine is supposed to have been gone thru and redone but unsure. Does have a new Vp , fass , dd clutch that I absolutely hate,, problem is truck is lacking power bad. Engine has been swapped to an earlier engine cause it has the crank sensor behind the starter but nothing is plugged up. Tach is inop I replaced the cam sensor but no luck. I've been researching this some and I e seen and read folks doing this ( older engines in later trucks) Truck starts and runs down the road fine just very lacking on power. Any help here would be very appreciated. If anyone has some help on this let me know. I can give my nbr and help me out on this one. Almost out of my element on this one. Thank you so much

98 24 valves use a cam AND crank sensor.
2002 uses CAM only.
This is exactly why it doesn't run right.

You'll need to swap in the 2001-2002 cam gear, with the correct tone ring AND the timing case with the correct sensor to fix the problem properly.

If your VIN's 8th digit is 'C' it is a High Output (245HP) engine, if it is '6' it is a Standard Output (235HP) and someone swapped in the 6 speed.

Mark.

Thanks for the reply everyone. Apparently the cam gear and tone ring had already been replace. Got a friend to scope it. Come to be a faulty cam sensor from Oreily's. Got a good one from cummins and fixed her right up
