Welding front axle/locker

Has anyone welded the front end (making the diff locked) on their dd? How did it turn out?
Also on a side note, why are lockers and limited slips so expensive for these trucks? It seems that companys want twice for what I paid for the one in my super duty I used to have.

Daily driver? If so, keep it open or go with an air/electric locker.

welding up your diff can be very dangerous.... just buy the proper equipment or go to a junk yard and find one that way
