2wd puller setup basics

I have an old 89 reg cab dually I picked up cheap. I want to have some fun with this critter. My biggest question is gearing, I'm going to run the 727 because that's what I have. How much gear do I need to stand a chance at being competitive? Maybe 4.56-4.88 range? I am guessing 33-35 inch tires? I would like to keep it a dually, where can I get wider steel wheels? I know I am going to be a little horsepower limited at first, keep that in mind for gearing advice. Will I be able to use all 3 speeds in the 727. Reg cab 1st gens weigh around 5,000 lbs so I have a lot of way to go to make a weight class. Any advice appreciated. I have three other first gens, not new to them.

How much power are u plaining on making this old girl run. If u put to much power with to low of gear you will have to go with bigger tires to make up the differnce. With 500 hp 4.10's and 33 or 35 will be fine and u will probley only be able to get 1st maybe hit second gear

fisrt thing make weight
the 727 beign a wide ratio tranny... doubt you will get second espesially if you are low on HP. unless you go with a short rear gear.
you looking at wheel speed between 20-30mph roughly.

dually... most likely you are going to need spacer to get wider tires. even 285 in a dually setup would be pretty good. pending normal track in your area.. look what the 4x4 are running.

weight on top of or little in front of rear axle center line. 5000lb truck mean you looking at ~3000 over the rear axle... that is alot of wieght that can be moved around for optimal traction
