HELP! Can you tell me what alh engine????

I'm currently looking at a 99.5 jetta tdi with the 1.9alh engine. Would this engine be a early alh engine or a late alh engine similar to the 00-03 engines. I am looking for one I can run the kerma tuning programmer that gets lifetime updates on so I can tune it easier and grow with it. I also planning on calling kerma tomorrow and seeing if they can tell me. I'm just in question due to it being a transition year.

I'm learning more and more recently but I'm in a crunch and need some help. Car has 209k on it with all the fixes done in last 10k. Is 6k worth it?

Thanks!!!!

In your area check the heck out of the body for rust, mainly behind the front wheel arch, there is a pocket formed by the fender liner that is notorious for holding crud and leading to issues.

The motor looks like the one in my 02, pull the motor cover and look at the plug on the IP, the early motors used a round plug IIRC.

Well the car is 2 hours away is there anyway I can run the vin or have him check anything? Other than the IP plug? I want to make sure it's the later alh engine for tuning purposes prior to considering a trip to see it and test drive it.

That is the same year Jetta I have. It was the first ALH. I am running Stage 2 Malone Tuning in mine but Mark had to send me a modified ECM to do it. It wasn't too expensive compared to my Dodge.

I wouldn't discount it becuase of the ECU, it is supposed to have the stronger Luke Clutch in it. Mark told me that is why it could handle the stage 2 tuning.

I was reading that. The only thing that I don't like is having to send it out for tuning. I really like the q downloader for versatility due to being able to change it. I want to be able to have mileage one week and more power on the weekend. Flexibility.

Southbend makes clutches too but I'm doing small things.
