I am wondering if any one has ever attempted to build their own front bumper I have been looking at bumpers latly and they are just a little pricey so I figured I could build my own but I need ideas so if any one has any pictures of bumpers that they have made or anything like that please share it with me.

Tons of people have built bumpers. If you're looking for ideas, just google images what gen truck you have. It's that easy.

Doesn't CPP sell the kit where you just weld together their pre cut metal? That's the best start if you ask me. Less time wasted and it will cost you less then trying to fug it up yourself!

Sketch out a basic high level idea of what you want and how it will mount. Make sure to think about all the accessories you will want on it. Get a bunch of cardboard (or 3/16" foam board") and Start fitting it all together. Once you have the correct shapes/layout you want, trace them onto steel and use a plasma cutting to cut them. Or a grinder and pile of cut off wheels will work too. The foam board has saved me a BUNCH of money so I dont waste steel or Al. Just my .02

Here are some low budget one's for ya:

Hey you must have over looked that rear bumper- there is small eyelet rings screwed in there for towing.......... around a shopping cart maybe? :hehe: :hehe:

That front bumper is SWEET and it even has integrated hood locks!!!:lolly:

Looks like nipple rings to me. LOL

It is all about how much your time is worth. If you can afford to spend three or four 18 hour days cutting welding, cutting off then re-welding, sanding, painting, etc then go for it. I'm getting to the age where in those three days I can find a side job and make enough and buy a professional unit that looks better. I like to build my own stuff when I can...but a bumper might be a tad much for me. $.02

My advice is find the one you want, get a budget, then find some extra stuff to do and earn the money. Then pay cash for it. :D

To save time and looks try to use band steel where you can I built mine using nothing wider than 10 in which I could by in any thickness from the local steel shop. It was easier since all the long cuts are done and straight. But a piece of advice I have over 50 hrs work in mine and almost $800 materials. You can buy one cheaper I just couldn't find one I liked so I built it

I built my front and rear bumpers. Used nothing but scrap steel I had laying around.

Nice looking work!!! It looks "Custom" not "home-built"! and I mean that as a compliment!!!

Thank you. I've built a few for friends as well. I've been considering doing it on the side for some extra "diesel performance addiction" cash lol. My powdercoat came in this morning. I should have them all coated tonight. It's black with tight packed small silver vein.
