Check the wiring on the pull and hold circuit

If you ever decide to go back to a solenoid ( or if anyone else is trying to diagnose a solenoid problem) , make sure the pull and hold circuits are not switched. The pull circuit will burn out in short order if it is bing used to hold the solenoid piston up.
Another thing to make sure of is that the relay for the pull circuit is much bigger than the hold relay. Some people think a standard relay will work in place of large pull circuit.
