The new DD
2014 Cruze
Found it online. Went to look at it today, drove it and was impressed, haggled for a while with the mgr and got a decent deal, and traded the Aurora in on it. Was time for a different car.
This one is missing the nav and the "idiot sensors" (parking, lane change, blind spot), and thats about it.
Very quick little car. Surprising acceleration.
Quiet, even on freeway.
Amazing mpg.
You all know what'll happen once the powertrain and emissions warranties are up.

Big block!
Very nice ride! I hope you enjoy it, they are all you've described.
Just please don't spill the cow piss in the trunk, it looks like a Heisenberg lab if you do....

Yeah, I finally found where the filler is. Not exactly GM's smartest idea. Thats ok, I think I'll only be filling it once, maybe twice before it disappears.....

In for the info. I think these little cars look neat and I would love to get my hands on one of those engines in the future.

Initial impressions:
-- Oh brother, Im going to get in trouble with this car. You get up to 45-55mph so quickly and smoothly that you look down at the speedo and go, "Oh ****" and quickly look around for police.
-- It likes to cruise at 75-80mph on the highway.
-- I dont know why, but I like the sound of the little diesel when its idling.
-- Goddam car sure is quiet at highway speeds with the windows up.
-- I understand the need for the "idiot sensors" now. There's a lot of legroom, but the seat adjustment for tall people pushes you back next to the B pillar, almost behind it. This turns both front seats into HUGE blind spots. So mirror aim is critical. For me, its not that big a deal b/c Im so used to using mirrors, but for other people I can see the problem.
-- Another problem associated with sitting so far back is the amount of wind hitting me square in the face when the windows are down.
-- I havent had a car with steering this sensitive since my Mustang. Small inputs yield big changes. Taking some getting used to.
-- Brakes could use some refinement. They like to grab, and have some fade when cold. Could just need maintenance.
-- Transmission does hunt quite a bit at low speeds. I understand Fleece's tuning fixes most of that.
-- Im getting 45mpg and its fun to drive. Yeah, the other stuff I can deal with.
Tried finding the speed limiter a while back on the freeway. 90mph was as far as I got before I caught traffic, but it sure was smooth. DIC read 45mpg at the same time. I laughed --must've just let off the go pedal.
Right now, I'm having fun with mods.
Little bit of chrome, little bit of silver, both to break up all the "white".
Better tires!!! GoodYear tires just arent what they used to be. Kumho Solus TA71s were a good compromise. Quiet, good handling.
Got me a Nav unit to install.... Just waiting to hear back from a vendor that can reprogram these modern radios. I really need to buy an MDI.
Had to buy a new DPF pressure differential sensor. Big f-ing deal....$26 and easy as hell to install. Runs great and Im having fun driving it and passing people on the freeway.
The car really likes 80mph, too.

I love the 2015 Cruze Diesel we bought last year!!! It had 4,100 miles on it when we bought it and we just crossed over 28,000 recently!!! It has been a great car for sure!!! Mine does not have the sunroof or park, blindspot and other sensors but it does have the factory Nav. I have only used it once and it got me lost, so I used my cell phone and Google Maps to get to the shop I was headed to (Wagler's shop in rural Indiana)... I suppose in an emergency it may be good to have, but I am used to using my cell and the maps are always up to date so I personally would not worry about updating to the factory nav at all...
The "OZ Tuner" tuning is GREAT on the car!!!! I have not installed the "lightweight" exhaust components and additional tuning yet, but it is there when I need it.
I have not had the chance to try the install yet, but I have the parts to do what I think will be a bolt-on major brake upgrade with 4-piston Brembo Cadillac ATS front calipers and EBC Red-Stuff pads and slotted/dimpled rotors on all four corners. When I take the time to do it and verify what is needed I will let everyone know in the magazine and here on Comp D!

I'm assuming it uses electric power steering? My car feels almost scary after driving a truck. I love these little cars though. Almost enough to buy one

Congrats Tom on the new DD
Glad to hear you really like it, I'm looking to get something different to drive in the next few months or so and a diesel Cruze is on my short list.

Thanks Chris. I know I could use the cell phone maps, and if I remember right there's an app that allows the map to "transfer" to the car's MyLink system via bluetooth...I just havent delved into it yet.
Im just one of those people who likes to add options that didnt originally come on the car. Did that to my truck, too. Dealer says it cant be done, so thats a motivating factor, too.
Yes, I have heard good things about Oz. Already emailed back and forth with Brayden about it. Probably will be my Christmas present to myself this year.
Bre, what do you do, ride a bike? Hitchhike?
Thanks Torque and highwayman.

^ What he said.
If you think it has touchy steering, try it without the junk LRR's and put on 245 width tires. It doesn't scrub on hard turns.

Already upgraded the tires to 235/50/17 Kumhos. Huge difference.
The steering issues seem to have went away after I changed tires.
I found BadNewsRacing's website, too. Sway bars, end links, strut braces, coil overs, lowering kits. Holy crap I could have a field day on that site.
124mph, eh? Gonna have to see about that.....
Thanks guys.

I highly doubt we will offer one.
I'm excited to see the new equinox with the diesel. Took a couple training classes on the new engine, seems pretty nice, but time will tell. They should be rolling out real soon, maybe already out in CA and NY.
Happy one of our products is pleasing for you guys.

The 2nd Gen Cruze Diesel is available with a standard transmission now... Next year it will be joined by the Cruze Hatch, Equinox and GMC Terrain all with the same 1.6L Turbo Diesel currently in the 2nd Gen Cruze Diesel. I highly doubt they will offer the manual trans in the CUVs...

Yeah you can get the Cruze in a manual, just built one on the website. I was wrong, never thought we'd do it in America.
