Allison 6 speed into 7.3 Excursion

A little update: I bought an '08 Allison 1000 from a wrecked, untuned Duramax. 160k on the clock. At least that's what I'm told.

I do plan on going through the trans anyway with what is basically called a 750hp recipe and will get a billet stator converter.

Being it's from an '08, I do need to change the bellhousing as it doesn't have the sensor, which is fine as I am planning on going SAE 3 anyways.

In the meantime, I did put a transmission cooler bypass eliminator on the truck. Dropped temps 40-50 degrees typically. I did make sure my cooler was flowing freely...

Anyone know what starter works with the Bus adapter? I located sae 3 parts from a t444e bus, but I don't have them yet. I was told the bus starter it a massive unit, and a pos. Not sure if my current one will work, or a different application?

I also made my 3k mile spring break trip, no transmission issues thank God! Stock cooler and the bypass removed kept Temps 90-100° above ambient at 75-80 mph. Loaded but not towing.

First off, glad your trip worked out good! Break down on a trip are never fun.

I do believe the Denso TG228000-6350 Starter will work. I have not done it myself yet. But, I believe it will work.

I am going to see if my 7.3 starter bolt pattern is the same. Not sure when that will happen though since I am 18 miles away from the parts.

I may not get my SAE 3 parts for a few weeks, so I can't check yet. I'll look into that starter. Thanks!
I do know the bus starter is supposed to be massive! And heavy and cumbersome.
A good friend just put a genuine Denso TG228000-8420 in his '02 7.3 and said it's so much stronger than the parts store garbage he took out.

On Edit:
That number seems correct, and it's a 4.8Kw starter, even stronger than the 4.0 my friend just installed. I just wonder if it'll fit? He actually had to clearance the crossmember about 1/8".
I don't think they (6350 to 8420) are compatible. They both spin CW, but the 6350 is 10 tooth, and the 8420 is 13 tooth. I'll share what I find when I find it.

I collected some part number off my parts today. Also checked to see if a 7.3 Powerstroke starterwould work on the T444E SAE adapter. No where close. See pictures below for Info and part number.

And a few more pictures. Of you want anything confirmed, just ask. The last picture's not have the complete part number due balancing. The complete number is, 182587C1

Also the flexplate is,1833796C91.

The only part I am missing is the flexplate to torque converter adopter. But, if I get a billet flex plate made, it can be made in a way the adapter should not be needed.

you want anything... just ask.

Thanks! This is great info!
I should have my adapter stuff soon too. I'll post up when I get it. He's throwing in a starter from a bus with it, so I can at least look. We can compare. Great to see that converter housing number.

Yes I quoted. I may have slightly edited, but didn't add anything. Just saying

? ? ?. I see what you did there!!!

Yes, it will be good to compare parts. Be sure to post what you get. There's another option for the flex plate out there. But, it's a lot more weight since the flywheel with the starter ring gear and flexplate are separate. But it would be easier to get a custom flexplate made.

No updates yet. You know how life goes. Kids, house, investment house etc...
I'm hoping to get moving on this in about a month, but I thought that months ago. I'll update once I do.
