Need reassurance on my thinking, manual to auto swap.
Ok so I bought me a p pump 24v for work and my 98 will be going under the knife for like the 10th time lol.
So I'm thinking about ditching my 6 speed and going the auto.
First off I want it to look factory swap out the colum dash and pedals.
I found a local wrecked 97 12v with an ats tranny. So my thinking is pull the tranny PCM, wiring harness and tps/ kick down cable. Put all that crap on my truck and it should shift correctly or am I overlooking something.
Also I'm aware of driveshafts input differences etc. just want to make sure it will shift correctly. Thanks guys

The only difference between the 98 and 97 47re is where the OD off switch would be mounted. The 98s would be in the shift lever. I did a full swap on my truck like your wanting to do. Wasn't bad at all to make it shift and look factory. Best bet is to just switch the whole engine bay/PCM harness instead of just switching the trans harness. Other than its fairly easy to do.

ON a 12v, your best bet is to just change to the Auto PCM and swap the entire harness. Thats how I did mine, and that was the easiest route.

Yes. In my honest opinion, this is the easiest and best way to make it act factory.

Did all 47re 96-03 take the same harness? Or did the later ones have different connectors?

The 98.5-03 are going to have different harnesses because of the motor differences.

You are going to have to find the 98 specific harness and PCM for the swap to work I believe since the dash and everything is operated differently in the 98's opposed to the 97's. I bought a 96 or 97 motor (don't remember which) and the connectors on the sensors are different from the 98 harness. The tach pickup and the coolant sensors were totally different just as an example.

Yeah I've been thinking about that I know the 97 motor I have has the same connectors but the 95 motor I put in my truck was totally different. I'm thinking it will have to be 98 only harness since my dash is the new style......
Sounds more and more like a pita

The wiring harnesses are a cluster... They changed connector vendors from 96 to 97 and the harness is totally different from 97 to 98 to all 12v 47re harnesses are different year to year.

That's not what I wanted to hear lol.
FML 98 12v auto harness will probably tough to come by.
