What are the max values for towing a 47re can take before I should pull over and let it cool?
Towing ~9,000lbs in stop and go traffic and 108* outside temp I saw 250* for about a min when I got up to speed and it dropped back down to ~220* about a min after TC lockup. Once I got out of traffic it was running 200* in town and about 160-180* on the highway in lockup. Shifted great the whole time...motor was also getting a little hot at 220* on the gauge. I don't usually tow that much in temps that hot so I was a little worried, but everything seems happy. Also my trans temp gauge is in the hot line from the TC so that would have been the max temp of the tranny and would I be correct in assuming the rest of the tranny was probably cooler since the temps dropped so fast after lockup and it only spiked when accelerating from 0-35? It has a finned deep sump pan.
