Thumbs up Twins Cold Pipe Pieces?

Anybody ever use these slip fit pips to do their cold pipes instead of but welding theirs together?

http://store.airflo.com/page2.html

Seems like they would work pretty good.

I've used them...I think the biggest reason guys butt weld them is for looks...but for function, as long as it seals, and doesn't have any slag or anything else to break off and go into a charger...who cares!

I think you could make them look good...but they're not gonna match the smoothed look of tig welded, butt welded piping.

But for me, function is a bit more important that looks, as long as it doesn't look like a hack job!

Either way you will still see the slip coupling. I am personally going with 4" sch. 10 304 polished Stainless Steel elbows.
I can get the 304 polished S.S. elbow for the same price as those aluminized things.

My first set had the slip fits. They still looked great and never leaked.

They could be made to look nice, can't be any worse then looking at some welds going all the way around like most without smoothing them out

Ron Allen made some sleeves that slide inside both pipes so he could mig weld it. Then you can grind them off smooth. If I was going to mig weld I'd either do that or tack them with a mig and pay someone with a tig to finish welding them.

Yeah, I was thinking slip joints with a some bondo smoothing before paint / powder coat would also look pretty good. I think one joint on my set is slip and with just the power coating looks fine. Not that I ever really look at it much.

eh, if you use guillotine clamps, you could probably bypass the JB Weld and just use RTV

I searched for a while to find slip joint pipe that was 4" but tapered down at the end (rather than being belled) with no luck. That way you could slip them together, weld them and they never got any bigger than 4". I did all mine with 4" exhaust pipe butt welded but I'm thinking about remaking them with polished aluminum pipe (add some show with the go)

Polished Stainless, would be cheaper, nicer looking and easier to weld.

I used the slip fit and will use it on my next set...Makes it easier when you don't have a tig as you dont have to worry about the bb's in the piping
