Best turbo for cummins 4bt
Not if this is in the right section but it’s pretty much the same setup a 94-98 truck.
I building a p pump 4bt. Would like to be in the 250-300hp range. My pump is set to flow 200cc. Timing set at 17* btdc I have contagious 5x.012 sac injectors i have 3 turbo and would like to use one of them to try and save some coin. The small is a hx25 (thinking it too small). Hx30 and hx35. I would like something that make it possible to drive without blacking out the road and not be too laggy. if there is a better option than those 3 I’m open to suggestions lol.
Thankyou

HE351WC for price and availability. Complete remans with reconditioned Holset body and new cartridge installed are easy to find for about $300 shipped. Use a solenoid block off, and there's a couple of options for wastegate control. No problem making that power level and better response than an HX35 of WH1C by far. Did you ask on the 4BT forum yet?

No, He351cw is non VGT
Besically it's the same as HY35 and I do not remember their difference
Hy35 was single entry exhaust housing 9 cm2 (in Dodge application)

He351 won’t be too laggy on a 4bt?

Most responsive in that frame of charger for the most part.

What does the solenoid do on the he351cw.
Just some else that I though of. Would it be worth doing compounds using the hx25 and hx35? I’m just reading a lot about people having problems getting them to spool up.

341 might be better, smaller compressor wheel but more than is needed for the horsepower he is looking for. Hy 35 also but probably harder to get.

A 300hp 4bt will be a bit laggy and smokey with a single and there isn't much around that. The 341 will get you there and drive OK but far from something you can toss anybody in the drivers seat and have a clean tail pipe.
There are some T04 base options that can get you close we have done in the past for those engines as well.

Super HX30W would be the correct turbo. All othe turbo’s mentioned would be laggy & smoky. Only 2 suppliers for this turbo that I know of. I have a source for them. Watch out for non-genuine Holset ones. PM me if your interested in knowing more.

I've got a solid 341 sitting on the shelf if you're interested.

What do you mean by t04. The flange?
I was thinking finding a single would be difficult to do/find the right one. What would be a good compound setup? Hx30-hy35?

T04 is a Garrett base. They can be had in t3 or t4 exhaust sides. Compounds would be best. An HX30 and just about any 57+ mm small frame turbo would be a decent driver.

Is a hx35 in that 57mm range or a he351?

So if the info I’m reading is right. Hx35 is 56mm would you stay away from the hx30-35 combo?

automatic or stick? makes a big difference, I daily drove my ranger with a he351 no smoke issues if driven right and I was using 5x.016 injectors. Biggest help was full manual valve body 47rh, 3400 stall dpc convertor.
Made 350hp to the tire on a chassis dyno

Almost exactly what I plan on using. It’s bolted to a 47rh. Just a mild shift kit from the previous truck I had it in. With everything I’m doing i want to change it to a full manual vb. Why did you go so high with the stall. Thought stall is usually around 1800? Is dpc the brand

Yes dpc is the brand; tried 3000 stall didn't like it, small engine and small truck stall is not actually 3400 like advertised it is lower 2800-3000. Engine size and load behind it meaning truck size have input towards the actual stall. Higher stall lights the turbo better to make drivability better. Having manual lock up for cruising and full control of gear change makes it a lot better also.
I called Phil for comvertor and told him what I was doing and wanted to drag race it and he sent me the 3400 worked great; rebuilt trans in the middle and tried a 3000 stall and didn't like it as much. I changed it back to the 3400 I originally build the truck with

Ok you kinda answered my next question. With that high of stall speed what it was like driving 1st-3rd. But sounds like your engaging lockup in second gear? Do you shift with lockup engaged or do you turn it off between shifts?
