Transfer case behind RH and RE transmission

I'm working on a 97 gas truck, but hopefully the same applies to a diesel truck. I removed a 241DLD that was on a 46RH tranny and want to put it on a 46RE transmission. The tranny output shaft is the same spline, but the RE shaft sticks past the transfer case mounting flange. The RH output shaft is almost flush with the mounting flange. My DLD input has 1-1/2" protruding out of the bearing flange. A 231D that was in this truck has 3/4" of input shaft protruding from the flange. Is there a different input that I can get for my DLD or is there more to it than that? I thought about pulling the input and machining 3/4" off of it.
