Building a shop

Power hooked back up. Spoken to the guys about 3ph for the property looks like 240v will be the easiest.

Hung the door frames, added some braces, and moving dirt for the ramp needed to access the building. Hoping to pour this weekend. Going to add a little side walk from the ramp to the walk through door being the area will be nothing but dirt for the next few years. 20” difference in elevation from existing driveway to the shop slab. This ramp is temporary permanent.

Packing the dirt with my 12v. Everyone should have a 12v around.

Formed up and ready to pour this morning. Hope my help shows up on opening morning of deer season.
Drilled and hammered rebar into my shop slab so the two don’t separate as bad. Tied everything together.

Epoxy for joining the two slabs or adhering the rebar into the exising slab? I drive 3/8" rebar into 3/8" holes. Fitment was tight.

Somewhere around 10*. Had the concrete mixed at a 4 slump, which was plenty thick. It worked well.
 
Coming along nicely, man! I'll be undertaking the same task sometime next year, so I'm excited to see yours come together.
 
West wall completed by lunch time. Spent the rest of the day figuring out best method for installing the roof, and pre drilling all roof panels. Measure twice, drill once

I hate building up a barn pad. Every one we've ever built up starts sinking about 10 years in.

Your fill looks different than just fill dirt?

Pad and building look great, though!

It’s called select fill. Heavy on the clay content with sand mixed in. This is what everyone told me to use instead of bank sand. Select full dirt will hold form if it decides to rain once beams are dug. With it did rain and they held form. I packed the clay as much as I could with the skid steer I had on hand at the time. Packed more with the tractor, then about 4,000 lbs on the bed of my dually to pack even more. The 4 corners of my beams reach original grade.

I did what seemed logical. Hope it holds.

We fitted, trimmed , and screwed the metal on each end wall. Then removed two sheets at a time to hang insulation. It worked pretty good, and made the trimming much easier. Took half a day for one end wall.

Scored a pallet of Bermuda grass with a little st Augustine on top for $40. Was able to lay grass around the entire building and keep erosion to a minimum. Next is to order doors. Roll ups are so dang expensive.
 
Not much of an update. Been busy at work which yields less time on the building. Dad was nice enough to finish up the remaining insulation work on the south end wall. Getting doors on order, hopefully this week. Also need to contact the city about final inspection before I start building inside. Hopefully they won’t notice the 5 random “floor drains” I have stubbed out of the slab.

This fancy trim package is BS. Can’t believe I paid money for it. Zero instructions and minimal drawings to support the idea.

I scored some lumber for 55% off at Lowe’s. Once the building inspector signs off, I’ll be busy inside.
 
Thanks. It’s been a process thus far.
City inspector passed the building a few days ago. Now once doors show up and are installed, I need a wind storm inspection before insurance will write me a policy.

No where can the average home owner find out each step needed for permits and inspections. It’s become very aggravating. Yet, I pay taxes to keep these people employed. Doesn’t seem right.

Had some trim left over and I needed a hemmed edge for a door opening I’m temporarily closing off with metal.

My 16x12 roll up door is ready for pickup. Going to try and run out there Friday to load it up.
 
I-beam for the inside showed up yesterday. Also hung purlins to close off my south door opening. Hopefully that happens this weekend.
