Replacement headlight bulbs

I've been searching all week, seems like the replacement information is from 2010 or before, since then it's all retro fit projectors. I dont want to get that involved, just a direct replacement in the stock headlights. Currently they both come on, but shine no where! Housing have a slight discoloration, but not what I normally see, so they'll be the last thing replaced. I already have the LMC harness to install, and plan on checking all fuses/relays. Just dont know what bulbs to get. Not looking to spend a bunch, thinking the better sylvania bulbs are about $100, so thinking around that budget. I can remember the headlights in this being pretty good when I bought the truck, 11yrs ago, but now are not safe to drive! Looked at some HID and LED about that price, but dont know if they were actually any good.

LED bulbs suck. Light projection is terrible, and cannot utilize the factory reflectors properly, due to being directional light.

HIDS in factory housings are bright, but lack cutoff so they blind all oncoming traffic and spray light everywhere. (anyone that does this deserves a roadside beatdown)

Best you will get without going to projector retrofits, is a high quality incandescent bulb, with a hotter color temperature.

If it is a 2nd gen, you may want to check flea bay for some cheap aftermarket lights that have better bulb capacity or contain projectors already.
 
I bought a set of lights and a conversion harness from headlight depo. They use 2 bulbs like the sport trucks, plug and play relay harness. Made a huge difference.
 
It costs a bit more than you want to spend, but the sport conversion with the brite box was the best thing I ever did to mine. I got all my stuff from genos.

Where do I find different bulbs? That was my thought, just run hotter bulbs, but I dont know where to find them? Also, I keep seeing 3 different numbers for the bulbs listed, are they really interchangeable, or is there one in particular I need to focus on?

Found these, have to double check, but I'm thinking the lmc harness is rated up to ~100-110w iirc. Would something like this work?

My thought is projectors first off, then install some HIDs from DDMtuning. I've been using their products for several years now per Lewis Preston's recommendation. I've got their stuff in all of my vehicles with no issues.

HID or LED bulbs in non-projector lights just make you want to brake check the chit out of whoever is behind you.

The thing that worries me about aftermarket housings, is the ones I've been around, in friends vehicles, new were about as bad as my truck is now. Looked cool in the daytime, worthless at night.

Have you done the jumper wire under the steering wheel that allows both Highs and Lows to be on at the same time when high beam is selected? Make a huge difference in the 2nd gens. Takes about 5 minutes to do. Pull the knee panel under the wheel and snap on a scotch-lock. Yes, I said it, scotch-lock. Its the only one that old truck had on it. :D

Jumper these wires. They are both under the steering wheel behind the cover. One is red w/ orange stripe, the other is light green.

Not yet, was wanting to do everything else first, not sure if it's a good idea with higher watt bulbs? Just need to find a scotch lock, even my electrician brother doesn't have any! Might do some shopping at work tonight if I remember!

Put stock bulbs in them and try it. I ran mine that was for years and years without ever having any issues.

That's basically what I'm after, the best/brightest direct replacement bulbs for a single bulb VP truck. Weather they are standard wattage or higher, doesn't seem to be much price difference online, actually a bit less than what I thought they were in the stores.

I just had some Sylvania bulbs I think. Stock replacements. Nothing fancy or expensive by any means. I need to figure out how to do it on this truck. I think the TIPM controls it but could probably be bypassed by a relay.
 
Just checked, the harness is rated for 90/100w, so I think I'll go ahead and try the high watt bulbs.
