my friends is looking at a truck (1990 f-250....no turbo) whether it had one and now it does not or it never had one....to pull a front end loader. with no turbo what does that mean for the truck. worst or better mpg, lower or higher haul rate, slower or faster.
thanks

Uh. A nonturbo'd truck will pull just as much, just way slower. The mention of pulling a front end loader with it sounds a lot like a recipe for disaster...but i suppose that all depends on the size. The only way I can see this going is your friend staring right into the face of a pyrometer sobbing about the 1300 degree's its running (and these engines CANNOT! handle that) and then just about the time he lets off the pedal the temp gauge oversteps its 1/3 sweep boundries, exceeds 245 degrees, and the check engine light comes on...
I'd find a PSD, or a Cummins...personally.
