Compound turbo field tractor.

Wanted to do something new and challenging. Picked up this 72' 6030 back in august not running. First course of action was get it running of course.

Got it backed into shed and started investigating. I found the #1 cylinder had a busted liner, #6 ate something, and there was about an inch of rust scale. As luck would have it I found a 619 for sale for a decent price. And that was something I wanted to do in the future anyways.

Then I got joking with some buddies one night about how we put compounds on pickups all the time and no one has done compounds yet on a field tractor.

So I started thinking on it and decided I would give it a try. Went with a s464/83 .90 t6 and a s475/96 1.32 t6. Had the pump rebuilt and upgraded to 12mm plungers, new cam, adjustable fuel screw. Had local clutch shop make me a custom clutch, using heavy duty hubs and new plates running 9 buttons.

Goal is 250-300 field hp wot and 1000* egt
Then crank screw for the track and 5-600hp? Maybe not too familiar with mechanical fuel system capabilities.

Are you meaning nobody has added compounds specifically to their older field tractor? 'Cause Deere's tractors have had compounds for several years already....

Looking good so far!

A 619 with compounds. :charger: Looking forward to seeing this completed, here id be happy to own a stock one! :pop:

Thank you for sharing. Looking very nice.

I have an '06 CX160 Case Excavator. The litte 4BT is underpowered for the Hydraulic pumps so I'd like to safely add 50 or so HP without melting it down in a high production situation. I could then maybe tweak the pump output just a bit to make this thing run almost as good as a Deere.

'C' - Can't
'A' - Afford
'S' - Something
'E' - Else

That's what I meant yes and Thanks! Been a long project and spring is sneaking around the corner and I have a lot of heavy tillage that needs done as soon as this thing is done!

Very cool project. I have always wanted to do this on an older JD tractor.

Why did you choose a 6030? Also, what kind of transmission is in that tractor?
No intercooler I imagine.

Because I've always wanted a big block and 6030's are just cool old school, 8 speed syncro, and yes it is intercooled.

I want to see that thing in person. We have a 4520 I've been thinking about restoring and playing with the power.

I'm gunna try and hit all the fair pulls I can this year with an open class. So you might catch me up that way. I'm out of mid mo.

Pyrometer, dual boost gauge one for low pressure turbo and one for MAP, exhaust backpressure and a vac gauge will be monitoring the Intake. Which at the moment I'm currently trying to figure out. Will need to have a big air cleaner for field work. And making it look good will either kill or make this project. So far I'm considering a big cleaner like off a w900.

What about two separate intakes? One with a cleaner setup, and then just your conventional open element filter for pulling?

I'm imagining a "Y" split intake with a valve or gate to switch between the two. Similar to the new active air intakes on the Ram trucks.
