Need another 100HP from my 12 Valve!

Ok I'm wanting to get down to 7.70 Index capability with my 97.

So far my personal best is 7.97 @ 85mph with a 1.68 sixty foot on some old 10 ply 285 AT retreads on 16" wheels. Using Wallace 1/8 calculator with the truck weighing 6700lbs that puts me at 650HP. Playing around with Wallace calculators I need another 75-100HP to put me at 7.70

I already have a set of 20x10's I'm going to wrap in 305/50/20 420V's for next season which would should help out a little, but I still need more power.

Current setup balanced bottom end, .020 mahle large bowl pistons with .100 fly cuts, Jokefab P&P head still has OE shelf, PDR street cam, 215 pump by Seth Farrell, 5x18 by Ducky Fuel, timing is set to 25*, Steed Speed T3 manifold, Zeigler Performance stock appearing turbo 63/103 compressor wheel and 67 (i believe) turbine wheel.

FirePunk Comp2 47RE with Anteater controller DPC triple disc with 1700RPM stall.

I am fairly confident I'm maxing out the potential of this stock appearing turbo, and need something better suited for racing. I would like to stay single turbo and keep the drivability as this truck is a toy that I still want to drive on the street without being super smokey.

Suggestions?

Thats a nice setup as is. Nitrous? (if its wastegated) Small kit, you have the fuel.

You already know, you need to add an s480. That would let you keep your spoolup and stall converter.

I’m pretty impressed with the time for that turbo and weight of an extended cab.

Toolbox is really only there to hold my dual derale coolers on the bottom side of it. I have been thinking about building a mount to put them back where the spare tire used to be and taking the toolbox out altogether. I don't think its going to look right with the new 20's being black & milled. The diamond tread and 2002 OE alloys went together.

Dan I talked myself out of buying an evil fab kit in December '19 because it was $2500 for a truck that probably didn't get 2500 miles put on it in 2020.

So instead I bought a T3 steed to help it breath better.

I was too I was running 8.40's at the beginning of the season and my last trip out I cracked into the 7's for the first time 3x that night. Very anxious to see what it does with some better tires this year.

Has an 18cm WG'd housing on that is currently blocked shut. Only see's 45psi at WOT if I remember right? I have a WG actuator for it if it was needed.

The guy I bought it from had it on a Reg Cab LWB 4wd drag truck with a small shot of Nitrous and was running lower than 7.70's.

I've honestly thought about using nitrous as a cheap alternative, but I'm afraid I'll hurt the motor. :

Talk yourself into buying the twins. I think most of the rest of the items will impact the driveability of it. So either pull the convertor and rest all it and get a bigger turbo, or twin it.

The 215hp P7100 is the best candidate for nitrous use.

$100 hp on spray is more than manageable- not much to worry with there

So my choices are either slap a bottle on it or hang an S475 under my current turbo.

Adding a turbo is definitely a lot more expensive than a bottle, but I fear my luck a solenoid would hang or something and screw up my motor.

+1 for Compounds. I love my compound turbo 12v truck with far less fuel and mods. I feel like compounds and 12 valves are like steak and potatoes. You've got all the supporting parts, I think compounds complete this build.

Have the power there all the time, no extra electronics, no bottle fills, bottle expirations, heaters, blah blah blah.

Hell yes. This is exactly what I was thinking but wasn’t going to comment on something I haven’t tried. Exact setup I am after.

Seems to me like a small hit of juice would go perfectly with the OP’s truck.

Will it spool with a 1700RPM stall?

That would be my concern as well. Quick search shows 467.7 comes with an 83mm turbine I feel like that would be hard to spool. My current 67mm comes up very easily as you can see in the video in my first post because I double bulbed myself.

Plenty of good answers in here.

If it were me, I never would have went the stock appearing turbo route. If keeping it a low stall converter truck, add a turbo to the stock appearing one. If you want to not spend a lot, put a small shot of nitrous.

Personally if it were me, I'd pull the converter and send it to Phil, ask him for a "hook dis" stall and hang a t4 steed and a 467 on it.

The sneaky Pete nitrous kit offers a decent gain and if you want to conceal it, makes easy work for rule bending. The bottle is pretty small and I think you’d be fine. Takes a lot of nitrous to screw things up at this level. Personally a 72 is the smallest I’d go in the s4 world. Spool time/rpm is near identical as a 67 but the map and power capabilities is comparable to a 75. If you are in fear of nitrous, Why not try to have your existing charger upgraded to the 67wheel and cover that is readily available on that platform? Nitrous would be the same price and likely more cost effective.

If I was going to do nitrous I would definitely just bite the bullet and do get a 10lb bottle so I wouldn't have to fill it up as often. I'm not even sure where I would get nitrous in my town, but there's a LS hot rod shop across town I'm betting they have it or can get it.

I had thought about reaching out to Taterbilt and seeing what he thought about upgrading my current charger, but figured I needed to upgrade to a charger more suited for what I want to do with the truck. His 67/67's put down some serious power with the Ohio diesel guys.

At this point I'm considering a Crazy Carl kit either piping and a VS Turbo billet 475 or his 2/3's kit with a box 475. He's only a couple of hours from me here in TN.
