Budget scsb 12valve build
Finally going to start a build thread since my truck is completeley torn apart again. The truck originally started out as a 1994 sclb 2wd 5speed with 160k miles. The truck originally got basic mods and then got down into a short bed. I wanted to do a build thread but ended up not because the project was rushed and things werent done the way I originally wanted them to be.
Heres the truck the day i got it:
And when it was shortened
The truck ended up in two accidents that messed the frame up, so I decided it was time for a rebuild and I acquired a 1999 1500 as a donor truck from a friend.
The current plans for the truck are to make it a ~600hp daily/street truck. I have a he351cw and a 74mm ht3b w/26cm housing that ive had for over a year and done nothing with, but the plan is ever changing so ill find out when i get there what the setup will actually be.

Here is the truck as it sits now, i am converting it to 8 lug using my dana80 which has wider leaf springs than the half ton axle does. I decided the best way to go about it was to grind the rivets and swap the leaf hangars.
The front hangars lined up fine, but on the rear only the top rear hole was i. The correct spot so i bolted it on and drilled out the other 3. Bolted them on with grade8 bolts and i plan on adding some weld where i can just for peace of mind. This is where im at right now, i will be painting the rear part of the frame first then rolling the cab backwards to do the front since i have no good way of picking it up.
Let me know if anyone is interested in the build ill start documenting everything i do.

My rear end has been welded for about year, about 5000 miles.. don’t really notice it unless you make a sharp turn.

I’ve always been a fan of an economical SCSB. Mine started that way. Then things got out of hand. Lol
Good luck with your build.

I have in high school when I snapped the center pin in the carrier doing burnouts. LMAO
It made doughnuts a lot easier back then.

Got the spring hangars a little insurance and prepped it for primer
Im not a proffesional welder by any means but im sure itll hold!
Bought a campbell hausfield spray gun to shoot the frame, BAD MISTAKE spray gun sucked! It looks decent in the pictures but its horrible in person, ill be touching up with cans and doing the black with cans also.
Im using rustoleum clean metal primer and black semi gloss, we’ll see how it turns out! Hopefully ill be able to spray the topcoat saturday and get the rearend painted/installed

A little update, rear frame is finished and leaf springs, hopefully tackling the axle tomorrow.
The goal for this weekend is to have the entire frame finished and moving on to motor work.
This is my first time painting a frame so any helpful tips and guidance is always appreciated

Nice build. Are you planning to move the engine position back?
