4455 pump mods
have a JD 4455 and would like to turn it up a wee bit. Does a lot of tillage work so still want it to be safe but just a bit more power to help it out a bit. Any ideas or tips on where to start? It has the bosch A inline pump but not real knowledgeable with these. thanks

Just looked over that document and lots of info but i was looking for more of a direct instructions lol like turn this screw a number of turns lol any info on that?

I would put an exhaust pyro on the tractor before you do much. Then, you can start a 1/4 turn in at a time.

I don't know anything about that pump
But I hope you got a dyno close, each motor responds differently to fuel pump adjustments. I made some adjustments on my 1066 pump for the field, and based it off what a lot of others were doing. I then dyno'd and had to back it down some cause it was way hotter than I wanted for the field.

ya i was planning on both boost and pyro and run it stock then make small adjustments. just not sure of what screws to turn lol and what order to change them.

Get an intercooler off a 4555, 4755, or 4955 to keep temps in check, then you can run about 200hp safely through it. Should get you what you are wanting after pump adjustments.

Just saw this... take the four bolts off the small cover at the back of the pump... loosen the 10mm jam nut.. use a flat bladed screw drive end.. (will need one with a 90 degree end.) screw in the set screw... I think we usually figured 1/4 turn was 20-25 HP on an A pump... The engine won't have a problem with the HP.. I've seen them at 300hp with all stock parts.. it will be everything behind it... as long as everything is in good should should be fine...

just seen this, ya thats how you do it. turn it all the way in till it wont idle back down and back it off from there. watch egts if your gonna use it in the fields though

I haven't turned one that far, so I'm not going to say... I had a 4640 at 300 Hp on the dyno... but I don't remember how far down I ended up turning it.. I set it about 190, and sent it home...

Did this very thing to a 4450, check timing and it was dead on, check for air leaks from the manifold to the AFC and set full fuel at 11 psi then tuned the pump up 3/4 turn. Runs like a champ but it is not a hard pulling tractor as I raked hay with it yesterday.
I'd agree that gauges and an intercooler of any type would make it that much better.

My dad had a 4840 that would overheat it the fuel was higher that 240.
It ran good though.
