What does this injection pattern mean?
My side mount intake manifold broke again,
[IMG] [/IMG]
[IMG] [/IMG]
so I took the head off to remove the manifold and found this.
[IMG] [/IMG]
You can see 4 spots almost look burnt a little and right where the nozzle comes through the head you can see a little 4 spray pattern. Looking at the injectors, it looks like there are 4 holes bigger than the other 4. By bigger I mean about double size. The nozzles are 8 hole nozzles in a staggered pattern and the upper ones are the ones that look way bigger. Also the pistons have the 4 patterns on top of the crown, not inside the bowl. Whats the deal with these nozzles? One other thing, after I pulled the head and looked at the pistons, it appeared to be small shiny goldish looking metal particles at the bottom of the bowl mixed in with the fuel. Is that some copper that could have came off the head gasket?

The copper is probably off the copper washers on the inj tips

twice ?.... that sucks. Looks like the intake needs a bit more support in that area for your top pump. PPE was having problems with their bracket cracking for the same reason.

You need to build a extra support from the drivers side rad shroud support up to the cp3 bracket. I have the same manifold (zzfab) and knew right from the get go it wasn't going to hold.
Trouble free with the extra support.
That triangular cutout that he welds on top needs to extend much farther back for more leverage.
Who's injectors? Can't say I like that pattern on the head, the top holes must have a insanely wide angle......BUT if the pistons look healthy who knows.

The chamber swirl has been manipulated tremendously. The 6.7 uses an 8 hole staggered spray hole design from the factory.

So much pressure/volume it's "splashing" up out of the bowl ?

I bet he is using one of those new fuel treatments that has extremely high lubricity. When the fuel is injected into the cylinder, it slips out of the bowl and burns up the head.

I will here shortly. Like I said though, every piston has the four spray patterns on top of the pistons but they don't seem to be melted. Just some soot that wipes off.

Can you post some pics of your setup? The injectors are from jl from what I'm told. Got them through a friend who got them from FTE.

How thick are the injector washers? It looks like fuel spray is hitting the head, there is no way the fuel is splashing out of the bowl, more like the injector is sitting too high or a cracked nozzle.

They are stock. We reused them when we swapped nozzles.

It would have to be 6 cracked nozzles because they are all like that. Before tear down it ran fine, just had the boost leak from broken manifold. Would have never found it except for the manifold being broken. I think those top 4 holes in the staggered pattern are the wrong angle.

What like you got some goofy nozzles? Anyone else's head look like that on a 6.7?
