2018 PPL Rule Changes Posted

Maybe I'm way out of the loop, but why does the bed HAVE to be covered? Especially if you're required to have a floor pan

Unless I missed it, you can have a bed without the floor. I'm guessing it is all about appearance since they won't allow a flat bed.

You're right. I read that it had to retain a bed floor, it meant cab floor pan. It makes sense to cover the bed if there's no bottom in it. I wonder if they'll force those with a bed floor to run a tonneau cover?

When the pro stocks were allowed to cut out the bed floor they made them put covers to keep the dust and dirt down. I assume they are doing the same here.

I suppose some of it could be safety related too, although not sure what a vinyl cover would stop.
 
I am good with everything except for the ice, we have never added a full 100 lbs of ice, more like 60-80 lbs.

#1 Maximum weight 8000#(Dry weight 7900# for ice allowance at scales.)

This was discussed at the meeting I attended as a proposal, but I didn't think it was something that was going to be a rule. I guess Mears was informing more than presenting an idea.
We don't put that much ice in either, so I guess we will have to make sure we always weigh with our ice on the truck. That way we will still be 8k. Not that 20lbs is going to be the deciding factor at 8k anyway.

I think some of this rule came from folks who would put on 40lb of ice on the scales, but would put in 80lbs at the line. Also the ice should have been on the truck as it drove over the hitch measuring spot. All of this isn't a huge deal, but an organization should do what they can to make the playing field even. I mean the little things add up. Probably that 100lb number should be dropped to 50lbs or so, as I am sure folks aren't wanting to buy 100lbs of ice everytime!

Or the guys that add 200lbs of ice.
 
It was presented as a way to speed up the scaling process. I am sure scaling without ice then adding in the staging after the scale was also a reason. Especially if 100-200lbs were added after weighing in.

I'm in agreement. To me full oem sheet metal means no gutting of the bed floor. But in all reality those that cut the interior panels up to a bare shell are too not abiding by this rule.

That part kills me. I'm like you, why not just put the extra 3 words in there. "Allow gutted beds". Pretty simple

Also ntpa did go to 7800 in limited pro. Why not fallow since they already have book out and printed.

Where did you see limited pro went to 7800? It's not on NTPA's website of 2018 rule changes.
 
That would just be ridiculous for them to do that. But I will say most of the discussion about the rule changes in PPL revolved around Haisley and they're guys pulling in ntpa and something about the front axles and the weight and blah blah blah nonsense. Build a better front end I guess

I was under the understanding that NTPA was only doing that to follow PPL if they did it first?
