Season over, planning engine build

Last local pull was last night, done pulling for the season, time to start an actual build for next season. Pulling engine and trans for trans swap and engine rebuild in coming weeks. I have been tossing around ideas of what we should be doing to engine for next year.

Currently:
P-pump 24v
was told 600cc 12mm pump, no proof or papers
Hamilton 188/220 cam
Valve springs, push rods
stock size lines
8 hole, believe .016 injectors
o-ring head
spearco

Engine was built on an extreme budget very quickly 3 years ago but has served us well for what was in it.

For this build, I will be building it all in the garage myself probably.

Plans:
Opening up piston bowls, valve reliefs(for bigger cam in future)
good 5 hole injectors(5x20 or so)
Port and polished head(Our rules state stock shelf)
Main studs, rod bolts

I am open to any and all suggestions on best way to go with this. I had forgot to mention, this is a 2.5 class truck, going to be 5spd, 35s, duals, will have weighted triple disk clutch and most likely 4.88 gears.

Thanks guys

Hopefully folks can see this. That's currently how it's running with only 23 degrees of timing.

I think you meant to say 6x0.020" injector.

Our build for last year:

Stock pistons with bowls opened up and reliefs
188/220 cam
12v head opened up a little and oringed
5x22 J&L injectors
single old style BFG 35s
4:10s
Hogan Intercooler
Scheid 600cc pump
2.5 S400 (not a box charger obviously)
14mm main studs
arp rod bolts

We carried 80psi of manifold pressure and 4k rpm down the track consistently.

We never engine dynod the truck but we were consistently top 3 truck in open classes with everything from 1400hp street trucks to 3.0 trucks guys slapped massive chargers on to. We spent a pile of time on the chassis trying different tire, gear, and suspension combos. Honestly that is where we found the most. We were hitting a wall when the boat would hit in the beginning of the year. By the end of summer we were able to carry the sled consistently to 300 feet just with chassis changes.

We put that truck back to stock to build the devils truck (common rail). We have a 1410 front driveshaft with yokes, 2.5 96x88 turbine T4 charger, and some other odds and ends if you guys are in need of some stuff don't be afraid to shoot me a message.

I will probably message you when we get closer. Your build is basically what I'm wanting to put together. We moved from ??x83mm turbine to a 96x88 1.0 turbine charger. It made a big difference for us, I just feel we are currently tapped out.....and too many unknowns in engine from previous builder.

I would, but sharing an injection pump on two different engines sounds like too much work.

So, been researching a little.

Adjustable pump gears. What cover allows you to run adjustable pump gears? Or is everyone just modifying stock covers some how to allow access during the pulls? Just having a 1/4" woodruff key cut in pump shaft to allow adjustable gear to match up?

Pistons:
Got a spare block that I believe we are going to use to build off of. Going to probably need a set of .020" pistons because of the condition of the bores, its been under a tarp in the barn for 2 years or so. Does anyone offer a set of opened up bowls and valve reliefs already cut in oversize pistons. I know of some local machine shops can get them done, just wondering if anyone offers them already done.

Sorry about some of the newb/basic questions, just my first engine build outside basic repairs.

Oh, and anyone have a port/polished stock intake shelf 24v head they want to sell?

Todd the pump already has keyway groove in the shaft factory and I believe all aftermarket billet front covers offer a quick access to pump gear. I’m sure someone can answer better then myself on pistons, but what about an 04.5+ 5.9 CR piston?

I'm open to any ideas. I am assuming their bowl is a little bigger?

This thread has a link to some good blueprints of alot of pistons.

I believe enterprise engine offers a 5.9L big bowl QSB piston that you can get .020 over and they will cut reliefs in them for you as well. If you tell them what cam you plan on running I'm sure they would be able to tell you how deep of reliefs to cut. I personally would cut them a little extra deep just incase. CR wont suffer that bad, and its easier to do it the first time.

Are you going to do an adjustable cam gear? if not, you can get offset keys to adjust your cam timing. Alot cheaper than an adjustable gear.

Edit:http://www.enterpriseengine.com/prod...04-style-bowl/
Are these the pistons you were talking about persinger?

These ones with wider bowl, and yes you can order them from enterprise with desired fly cuts in them.

Got a few quotes from a couple machine shops/engine builders. Have been honestly pleasantly surprised at the prices for pistons and almost complete long block assemblies. Still waiting on a couple quotes.

Anyone looking to sponsor a truck next season? Haha

I've heard a couple people say the interstate mcbee stuff is pretty good for the price, or mahle. Both are cheaper than oem cummins.

enterprise might be any easy way to do it. get reliefs cut and be ready to roll as soon as they show up.
