swapping from gear driven speed sensor to toner ring?

Bought a core 47re a while back and rebuilt it with all billet servos, higher clutch count, etc. i waited to go to put sensors in until after i installed it, now looking at it, the transmission i pulled out has a gear driven outputshaft sensor 47rh? While the transmission i just put in has the toner ring style that is smaller. the transmission is a 47re but does that mean it had a rh od unit from the factory? I dont want to pull this back out just to swap units and rebuild the other one.

Does anyone know if i can just swap the pigtail out to the smaller style and if it will still work the same? Any help on what im looking at is much appreciated

Your signature shows 5 speed so I can't get a clue from that. Is it RWD or 4WD? If it is 2WD do you have rear wheel ABS?

I didnt know the early re’s had that style sensor, on the dakota digital does it just tie into the three prong plug that was for the other sensor? Who sells the replacement sensor for the gear driven style? I guess i am just going pull the tailhousing off and swap them, thanks for the info

In case you change your mind and go with the Dalota, no you don't use the plug from the VSS. As I said the Dakota gets it's signal from the ABS sensor in the differential. It is the simple 4 wire install. Power, ground, signal in (from ABS) and signal out (to speedo). For my '97 got the ABS signal from the OBD data link connector (red wire with violet tracer) The factory speedo signal wire (white with orange tracer) was found in the big white wire connector that is under the dash in between the clutch and parking brake pedals.
