Steering box

So my rebuild moves forward slowly but steady.
Been looking at steering boxes now.
I had a lot of play in the steering before and the old one leaking oil.....
So been looking at new ones. Have understand that not to look at quick ration ones with diesel and bigger tire.
But does any of you tried some brand any are very happy with the result?

almost all brands have the same amount of feedback...50% no issues, 50% issues.

rebuild yours, and adjust according to the manual. possibly do the west texas mod.

Bluetop. I also replaced the intermediate shaft with a dorman. Borgeson is nothing more than a GM box adapted for a Dodge.

I used a Redhead on my 79. Quick ratio.

Looks good, feels great. I actually prefer the 79 over my newer trucks, drives nice down the hwy

Not a cheap box though

Edit- ordered it through DAP, slightly cheaper and free shipping

Two RedHead boxes here. One truck is hardly used, the other used daily. Neither has issues and happy with the box. It wasn't cheap, but quality never is. Both trucks are 3rd gen CR 4wd.

I started with Borgeson, which is a GM box adapted to fit a Dodge (as mentioned above). The box never pulled flush to the frame of either truck, and the box wouldn't turn the wheels fully with engine running, truck parked, tires on the ground. Borgeson said I needed a new power steering pump. After days of going around with them, they took the box back, refunded me, I had to pay for shipping, then proceeded to buy one RedHead, then a second.

Both trucks still have the OEM power steering pump and no issues.

Bluetop does the exact same procedure as Redhead. Ryan used to work for them.

Years ago I did the Mopar upgrade on my 3rd Gen. It is basically a 4th Gen box that fits a 3rd Gen. It is a lot bigger than the stock box and it works very good. Years later it is still tight and I can turn my steering wheel without moving lock to lock and I have 35's.

Is there a steering gear stabilizer available to work with this box on a 3rd gen?

I don't think so, and the pitman arm is different. It's a big box, I like the feel and it has kept the steering feeling tight since I put it on.

FYI. There is a great article in the latest issue (98) of TDR about the 3rd gen steering gear boxes and how RedHead rebuilds them.
