Carrillo hybrid piston / rod combo
Has anyone ever used or know anything on the Carillo hybrid kits? Not really a whole lot of info out there on them or people that’ve used the. Mainly looking into their 6.4 combo

Its lighter so should be better for bearings etc. I know of 2 sets used, one being a 6.4 setup and its over 2k hp with no issues. Cant speak of drivability since everything else was changed from before

Thanks. Was wondering if any issues arise in the 6.4 setup being that the rods would be a little over a inch and half longer, but if they are living at over 2000hp evidentially not haha

A longer rod is a good thing, they are more efficient.
Id like to try this Carrillo setup with one of Hamiltons new lightweight cranks. That would remove 30lbs of rotating weight and 12lbs of reciprocating weight.

That would definitely be one quick revving setup. The Carillo kit comes with forged pistons correct?

Yes, the pistons can only used with those rods as they have added pin height. They are a forged piston with steel ring land inserts so they will actually hold up to street use.

^what Weston said. Forged pistons, no steel ring land, not in the sets we used at least and dont believe its offered. The rod and piston have to be used in combo as well, unless you're sourcing other custom pieces. Different wrist pin altogether for a cummins app

Just wanted to give you a chance to correct that statement, not so much tell you that you were wrong.

I appreciate it, these were something I have been considering for a new build. The lack of insert isnt a huge deal for me, but it may be for someone who read my mis-informed post and wasted $4600.

Whats your opinion on these for street use Weston? In the cp video he said that they last longer and im guessing thats from the hard anodizing.

Well all I can realistically do is offer my opinion, of which I do not make the recommendation of using a hard anodized ring land forged aluminum piston in a street application. This is not to say some haven't had success with such, or that it will lead to unavoidable failure, especially if it sees limited street time.
