4.5 l jd fuel issues

Thing idles fine, but when you give it full fuel it runs for 30 seconds then dies. So far I've changed both fuel filters and it's still doing it, mechanical lift pump seems to be working fine at idle.
What kind of pressure should that pump be putting out?
It's been getting progressively worse white smoke, so I was thinking of taking the injectors to be tested while its down.

Is this the power tech 5 cyl? Just went through a bunch of bs on my skid steer. Ended up doing everything on the outside and then lift pump solved it. Even though it ran good it would just die then be a mf to prime.

Are you getting any codes? The injectors have their own pumps and are all timed. So it’s not a simple process. But I’m assuming you already know that.

Sorry I think mine has the 3.0l 5cyl.

It's a 4cyl. Your situation sounds like mine then. Seems to drain the filter and the lift pump cant keep up. Have to crack the lines every time to get it to fire back up

That small mechanical pump is only for transferring fuel. Minimal pressure, less than 5 I'd say.

Does it have the small primer hand pump on the top of the fuel filter? Those diaphragms are notorious for getting holes and sucking air.

How about some sort of suction filter in tank or inline between tank and pump?

What machine is it on? Tractor or other equipment?
