Rebirth of Monster Mudder

Things are really starting to come together on getting the Mud Truck back up and running, ready for the start of the season May 1st in Cedarvale, KS. I picked up the engine a few weeks ago from Pure Diesel Power, really happy with it so far, can't wait to get it all running and see how it does.

I'm still waiting on parts to come in and getting itchy for the brown and white trucks to arrive with the goodies.

My starter, adapter and flexplate are on their way from Destroked, hopefully here in a week.

My billet timing cover, freeze plugs, turbo, turbo adapter, external wastegate, fuel pump, trans cooler are on the way from PDP and ED.

Need to pickup my NP205 transfer case from the guy I'm getting it off of.

Still need to finish purchasing wiring things to rewire the truck with just what's needed, 4 switch plus start, 4 relay bank, remote battery holder, etc..

Need to get the remaining gauges (Tach, Oil Pressure, Water Temp, Ampmeter)

I went to order my th400 transmission from Art Carr Offroad last friday and I found out they had closed thier doors. I ended up ordering the transmission from the Real Art Carr out in California from California Performance Transmission. I'll have a transbrake and a reverse vb, along with all of the billet goodies needed. 2200 to 2400 rpm 13" stall converter.

Last weekend, I stripped more junk from the truck, all the remaining wiring, pcm, airbags, battery mount, etc.. had to be atleast 40lbs in wiring along under the dash and in the engine compartment alone.

Heres a quick pic of the engine.

Click the image to open in full size.

Engine has Hamilton 188/220 , Mahle pistons, fully ported and polished head, fire ringed, larger intake and exhaust valves, tube intake, balanced rotating assembly, block girdle, studed engine, billet timing cover, billet tappet cover, 215 hp pump with 181 dv, 435 injectors, ED 66/74 turbo

I'll post more as I start getting it together.

Very nice! Do you think that NP205 is going to live in it? I've broken 2 pulling with half the power you will have. The last one also had the pro fab billet parts and guess what? I broke it too. Good luck with it, it'll be a blast!

I think I'll be fine, but you never know. Mud is much more forgiving in some regards than a hard track. U joints and front ends are usually the weak links in mud racing.

My friend used to race a mud rail around here and the only thing that didn't break was the dang NP203. He had 36" tractor tires, a D44HD with super joints, 14BFF rear, 355 with nitrous that dyno'd over 800hp, and a TH350. He used to break axles, u-joints, and 205's like they were candy. He ran the circuit for 4 years and got beat like 4 times I think. It is definitely addicting. I ran his a few times and it was nuts. Good luck with the build!

Right now if I make it more than one race, I'll have beaten my record for last year. I knew I needed to do alot of work on the 600.00 truck, but wanted to see how it even did in the mud pit before I spent a bunch of money on it.

Got the call this evening, my th400 is built and ready to ship out tomorrow, my adapters from Destroked are on the way as well.

I can't wait to get it running and just see how it launches.

I know what you mean about just getting through passes. It definitely will be cool. Do you have any pics of the truck?

This is from Cedarvale, KS last year, my first run. Placed 4th out of 9 trucks:

Truck was originally a long bed extended cab, we cut 3 feet out of the frame.

I think the light weight will be a tremendous help in keeping the 205 alive longer too. That truck probably weighs, what around 4,800lbs? Compared to an equal horsepower 8,000lb pulling truck on a sticky clay track, I'm sure it will live. The worst I did to mine was push the output through the retainer on the case. It survived through breaking axles in the D60 front and stripping teeth off the D80 in the back.

When I weighed it last year, it was at 5400 lbs, I've done a bit more to lighten it up for this year, but maybe only 100 to 200 lbs lighter. Not sure the weight difference between a 47re and a th400 or an np231 vs np205 eithr. Below is the body I want to put on the frame, but that will have to be a project for next year if I can get my shop built. That will significantly reduce the weight of the truck.

Man this is a pretty cool build! Think I may have to give our local bogg another shot this year myself. I certainly learned what not to do the one time I got a crack at it and with the addition of the pro ratchet shifter which gets here today I should not have the early 2nd/3rd upshift problem any longer.

If this is a dedicated race truck, cut those boggers. Unless of course the class prohibits it.

Can't cut the boggers, class I run in won't allow it. I'm racing in Modified Street and Super Street classes. I'd like to get the truck up to pro street level, but I've got alot more work to do on the truck to get it there.

Ok, well maybe you got lucky. My old truck weighed 6500lbs. It didn't have over 400hp back then and still tore them up. I would run a 241DHD or a 271 or something. But, seeing how he has everything for it right now he might as well give it a wack. Like I said before, the 205's in my friend's mud rail would not live with tractor tires. That's exactly what this truck will be like with un cut boggers. Heck if anything, have a 203 around in case the 205 shucks.

If you want to drop some easy weight replace those heavy stock steal wheels with some aluminum wheels...

Well, if somebody wanted to donate a stock width, proper backspacing set of factory alum wheels, I'd be open to running them. I need the wheels as narrow as possible to suck the tires in, since you can only get 37" swampers in 13" width.

Just a quick update, not much going on right now, waiting on the gods of speedy delivery to bless me with the goodies.

Transmission is between here and Cali

Adapter and Flexplate are between here and Colorado

Fuel Pump, Turbo, Adapters, etc. between here and Wisconsin

Gauges, Tach, wiring parts, and Relays are between here and Ohio

Did fix the front right tire this weekend, it was leaking air bad around the bead, cleaned the rim and greased the hell out of it.

Also painted the injection lines, added the valve cover with the oil filler opening to the front of the engine and finished porting the exhaust manifold, painted and then wrapped it.
