Heavy Street-

A class like this would just turn into another super street, the only way to make a class budget friendly is to put an index on it, limiting power will just cause people to spend a ton of money in engines and other things trying to get every last drop.
The 30 mile cruise idea would stop some super street trucks from being able to compete in said class but I for one would have no problem cruising my truck 30 miles, it also complies with the stock frame, stock suspension, stock engine location ideas and I'm running 5.7's in the 1/8, 8.8's in the 1/4.
In the end, racing heads up will always be expensive.

Agree... Gonna have to limit the air is all there is too it. 100+mm chargers can be ran as singles and run 8's. Nearly everyone can make a 30 miles cruise. Add an intercooler in and I think we are all capable.

If there wasn't a size limit on the charger and you could run anything you wanted if you were going out west you could down size your charger if you had to if there was a problem getting it spooled . I think the class would be all about tuning and air flow. You could basically go with a couple different sizes of box turbos and run what ever you could where your at . I do that right now. I have an 88 that I run if I can if I can't I throw the 83 on. I think it would even the field a lot. All you would have to check on the trucks is that it has one turbo no injectables and the weight.

I still think someone needs to set up a "fat girl quarter mile special."

Minimums:
8000#
6 tires
fuel tank filled to the bottom of the cap
one chubby passenger

:hehe:

Jenny Craig could sponsor it.

Dead on here.

Heads up racing is always super expensive period.
Index keeps tight racing and is more challenging for the drivers. People that's not done it wouldn't get it. Running on dial without breaking out and catching the light is some exciting racing behind the wheel. I'd leave heads up to Top Diesel or even then put a 6.00 index on it, untill Scheid runs a 5.99 anyway. Lol

I was basing this more around odss...which has no elevation that I know of.

i liked the comment about finding a way to combine the two classes (pro street and super street) as far as turnout goes. You have 6-8 active trucks in each class. If they ran together youd have better fields at each race. Like phillip mentioned, anything heads up is going to be expensive. a SS truck spends just as much money building and maintaining as a PS truck does. i think if we start limiting turbos, the guys with the big budgets will just invest money elsewhere to find the hp. If you allow nitrous, then you might as well allow twins and triples etc. i dont know the answer either unfortunately. Would love to see someone come up with one tho.

IMO, for there to be more trucks in the field, we need a class that is accepted by both organizations. This way there may be more cross over, thus more trucks on the track and more people in the stands.

Ryan, i agree with you 100%. Index racing is a blast for the drivers. The fans maybe not so much though.

From a fan standpoint and still in keeping with limits, isn't that what bracket racing is? In bracket racing its still first one to the stripe wins, right, not which one has the fastest ET? First to the stripe is fun for the fans isn't it? It sure works for street racing/no prep/arm drop races. And you run against your dial too, right? That keeps you from sand bagging, right?

Or nah? Index or fastest ET are the only ways to have a good race for racers and fans?

Index racing is basically a bracket race but all competitors have the same dial in. You still have to hit the tree and drive the stripe to win. What an index class does is stop a 9 second truck racing a 14 second truck which can play hell on converters.

Side track.....

Rob,

Mike still doing your Cummins tuning?

I dont think there will be anything budget friendly about a 5.90 or 6.0 class, maybe a 8.0 but not a 5.90 class. These vehicles take stupid money to get there and maintain because of our weight. I think removing weight makes things budget friendly in my opinion, less breakage, less hp needed. We’re a 5.90 truck right now @ 6000lbs 5.90 @ 5000 would be cheaper to obtain.

5.90 at 4500 won't be to bad. The announcement just dropped that there will be a 5.90class in ODSS this year and that's the plans for my truck.

Yeah we’ve been privy to that info for a bit, but you’re correct 5.90 @ 4500 is easy work and won’t be as bad on the pocket.

5.90 index is a great move for odss imo. There are a hand full of guys running 6.70 that are sand bagging. Your other option was to do what we did this year and run low 6s in pro street witch really isn't fair to the pro street guys. Kudos to odss for bridging the gap.

Make it a 4 tire minimum and I will race everything in the driveway.
