How hard is it to bend a Dana 80?
Hello, have a question that may be stupid. Just paranoid. Found a good deal on a Dana 80 yesterday so I jerked my 70 out and went to get the 80. To get the 80 out we had to do some major rigging that included pulling the axle from underneath the truck, while the truck was barely supported. The truck that the 80 was being pulled from had a work bed on it with a lot of weight in it.
Anyway, the thing that worries me is the fact that the truck fell down on the axle one time, enough to Bury the drum in the dirt up to the axle tube (thankfully it wasn’t on concrete). What’s the chances this damaged the axle? Again, it did have a big boxed work bed on it that was very heavy. The axle seems totally fine just by looking with the naked eye.
Am I just being paranoid?? How strong is the axle housing?

I would run some pipe through the axle and compare the center of the pipe to the spindle to see if it is bent. I would say you are probably ok, but be worth checking.

You dented the dirt.
Fill the hole in and go away knowing it was only a dent in the dirt.
