idea for better turn out

how about a points series.

x amount of points for participating
x amount for position finished?

i know alot of people feel that since its monthly " oh i can just go next month" so why not reward them for coming every month.

find a few sponsors to pitch in on a year end cash prize or something.

I'd like to come race with y'all, but my main thing is that my truck is slow.. 14.xx just isn't good enough for me to go up there and run it hard all night for nothing, but i wouldn't mind coming to watch. thats about all i could do b/c i'd get knocked out the first round.

As long as we can have separate classes for the Dodges and the Fords.....

I like that idea. I just need to keep a fuel pump going more than a day.

Not to sound like too much of a dick, but why does everyone need a cash/prize incentive to come out to the race track, hang out with other diesel heads and beat up on each other and the occasional fart can import?

If you want to run points, keep track of all the the rules, deal with the people who will complain because the rules don't work in their favor, and keep moving the start time of the races back further and further for racers who don't know what a watch is, and do it all for free, by all means, knock yourself out. Who knows, you might be the next big diesel drag racing promoter.

i show no matter what. but something has to bring folks out. maybe if half the people that showed up would race instead of sit in the parking lot it would be a little more fun for the guys that came to make passes against other diesels.

All I hear is that guys don't want to run because they don't run fast enough to win.

Get rid of the prizes....and that problem goes away.

The only way to make it fair is to run brackets so everyone has a chance to win. Anything else means someone is left out and won't race because they don't think they have a chance to win.

Scott, I really like the fact that you are thinking about this and this is a good suggestion.
I have found that no amount of incentive will bring out the racers, they just have to want to come.
We appreciate your support as you have showed up for most if not all the races.
With my truck, Max's express truck and if David will ever resurrect Snow White that will be a great way to bring out more diesels but it just comes down to people wanting to come.

i think the events happen too often to be succesful. don't get me wrong i like them happening every month, but i believe the monthly event doesn't allow for enough time to build publicity and hype to bring in the larger crowds. for instance, if we had a event say 2 or 3 times a year, rent the track for the day, have multiple activities and and multiple classes, sponsors, and a gate fee... similiar to the old dhra. i know its a big step but this is what i would like to see and what i believe would be succesful. any thoughts?

The $10,000 to $15,000 it takes to rent the track is a big deterrent.

I think it's around $5,000 just to secure the date.

I think they happen at an appropriate interval. The weather is going to start warming up, so hopefully we can make it out to Baytown in the near future. I'm definately looking forward to it

I like the idea of a points series. I think that would help some.

I still say the number one thing that would get people to actually race would be if it was bracket racing. I've heard numerous people say they don't wanna race because they know they're not fast enough.

I'm not sure why some people are so against it. I don't think it's much trouble at all for the track and, in fact, don't think they'd mind going out of their way a little for it. I think they get a kick out of it when we race, and there's usually a decent number of people along the fence watching.

did not know this... i called hrp... 10am to 5pm first 5 racing cars is $1500.00 each race car after this is $300.00 each. this covers all appropiate personal. so say 30 trucks race = $9000.00... food for thought... wonder if theres a group rate

Considering how many people like to say they are going to show up to these events and don't, you will to put up 9 grand minimum and take a chance?

No I'm not and that's my point I did not know it was that much. Then again I don't think the woman I spoke to understood we were interested in doing an event more of a private testing. I'll find out more tomorrow I'll call again to clarify. I'll also call Sealy and hmp tomorrow. What would u suggest mike. I would really like be more involved I just don't where to begin.

Well that is not necessarily so. I have been there when they called for an impromptu bracket race on street night or test/tune night, just looking for entries. Anybody welcome. So a few bracket rounds in the middle of street night is not unheard of.

8 trucks is just 3 rounds with the lights set up for bracket. You just determine your dial in with normal runs. Then give the number of trucks to the track, they call a round from specific lane and go make the round. You already have dialin on the window. I think it is pretty easy for them to change the light setup for bracket trees. Winners get back in that lane until they want to call the next round (second/third/etc round until a final winner).

I would think as friendly as they have been to the diesel crowd that it is possible.

I have been to all but one or two, able to race or not. I would love to be able to race again, just don't know when I have the money to fix the problems.

Prizes are not why I show up or race.
